Dipped beam failure help needed

The dipped beam is not working on 1200gs 06
Dashboard panel shows "Check LAMPFR"
Checked bulb which had blown
Replaced with new bulb which dimmed slightly then went out.
Checked bulb again which is OK
Dashboard panel still shows "Check LAMPFR"
Any ideas

Remove bulb and check it works OK from a battery?
Use Multimeter to check 12V feed to connector is OK?
Swap bulb over from main and check it works?
Strange bulb "dimmed".

Many electrical gremlins are down to connections, esp. earths.
Give all the connectors a good once over. Make and break every one you can get hold of. Check inside each one for dirt + moisture.

Process of elimination.
