Directional instability….

I had a similiar issue with my 2007 R1200RT. It was the tyres. Changed them and it went away.

Nice new Continentals put on today and as the sun was shining it would’ve been rude not to. Night & day different. Smooth, stable, neutral, predictable, all the things you’d like in your bike’s handling. Held a nice line in bends and gave loads of feel even on very cold, wet/dry road surfaces. I think it will be coming to Austria with us in June. Thanks all for the advice.

my RT also has to be held up in corners ...hmmm not the tyres they're newish and BT's
update ,
leaking fork seals , so done those and the seized speedo drive .
refitting , i have taken out the little screw at the top of the fork ,
pull fork up to bottom of yoke , but to the side . so the hex bit is next to the yoke ...insert screw , pull fork down and insert into yoke . put it all back together and go for a ride . dropped the tp's to 31/36 lets see , still drops in a bit.
setting them at 36/36 .

DROPPING INTO CORNERS HAS GONE !

I'm still gonna sell it.

FWIW I’ve just swapped the tyres on my RS1250 from some cheapish Chinese tyres ( I know , I had to try them ) and put Conti motions on it ,and it’s totally transformed the bike . It now handles like a sports bike

I really ‘get’ that. Quite a few years ago now I bought a 700 mile VFR800 based solely on the motorcycle media hype on them, hadn’t even ridden one before and wondered if I’d made a huge mistake. It was on a pair of Dunlop D204’s from the factory and it was awful, no stability at all. Then I read a Ride Report on a tyre test they’d done and one of the bikes they’d used was a VFR800. In the write up they gave top marks and best buy to the Bridgestone BT020, on the VFR. So I had some fitted and suddenly I could see why the VFR was so highly recommended. It was a chalk & cheese, night & day transformation. Similarly this 1150RT changed instantly once a set of new Continentals were fitted.

Ha ha 😆 even with 36/42 my RT never dropped in...😁 Neutral with a capital N... Marked difference in steering on oilheads regarding gear and revs though...

after i did the fork seals , i kept doing little rides . forcing some air pressure into the forks transformed the handling to near to what i had hoped for.
last ride , coming off the roundabout , passing a van on the exit , i touched it down. it had become what i thought it should be.
just a shame the mirrors are in a shite place and the panniers are too small.
anyway it is gone, and the new owner is happy.
