Hi all

I have read various posts related to disabling the exhaust flap and tried just disconnecting the plug marked in the photo. I got an engine fault nag light on the dash though which disappeared when I reconnected the plug. Is this what I should have expected as other posts appear to suggest there would be no nag. Anyone got anything they can share on this? I'm on a 2015 GSA.

If all you do is remove the plug you will get the nag

To remove the flap thing you will need either a set of Akra de cat headers or a link pipe to replace the flap section. Then you just have to remove the cables that operate the flap and jobs a carrot.

GS911 will detect that there is no flappy thing but that is it or should be

Andylel, whats the motivation ? Are you trying to make her quieter? Curious.

I've got the fuelling almost spot on but there is that annoying 3.5 - 4.5 k range where it's still a little bit snappy trying to crack the throttle. This I think is where the valve operates and I want to eliminate it as being the cause. Actually I'd be quite happy if it was the cause and I could just get rid. :)

Thanks. How is it different if I remove the pipe with the flap in? Surely the net result is that the plug I have highlighted is disconnected just the same. Is there another plug or some other electronics that senses whether the flap is actually present (open or closed)?

No, plug gets reconnected and motor carrys on working just the same. But, the wires (not electrical) are disconnected because there is no flappy valve to be worked anymore

If you want to test it without the flap, take the plastic cover off the top of the flap. You'll see two wire cables which attach to the top of it, that run from the flap motor. just disconnect those cables from the flap buy loosening off the adjusters. no codes and the flap will stay wide open, as its spring loaded. You can secure the cables back in position, but just not attached to the flap. Just make sure they can move in and out freely and wont snag as the flap motor will be moving them in/out as normal.

Thanks for that, I'll give that a try before I go down the removal route. Very helpful, ta.

Someone on here was selling link pipes. I bought one and fitted it which requires removing the cables from the motor end. This leaves two small holes in the plastic housing now blocked with grommets. Flappy paddle section complete with attached cables cleaned and stored away for re-fitting when the bike gets sold. You can hear the motor going though the check phase when switching on the ignition so the brain thinks all is srill in place and functioning. Complete removal is better as just releasing the cables will soon see the paddle seized in the open position. Bike sounds much fruitier. Any increase in performance is probably in my mind.

I would advise the following:

Remove the downpipes, cat and nasty flappy valve thing (which is only a noise reduction system). A member of this Parrish was on his 4th one of these, all replaced under warranty as water gets in and the valve seizes up.
Pack away somewhere warm and dry to be refitted when you sell the bike
Fit a nice set of Remus or Akra headers with no cat
Complete with a nice Akra can (other makes and models are available)
Go see Geoff at Hilltop and get a remap
Relax and Enjoy

You will undoubtedly get some folk on here who will tell you that to do the above is very naughty coz:
it's bad for the environment
It's very noisy and will scare young children
It will invalidate your warranty, insurance, marriage etc
Hilltop is all black magic and any power gains are in your imagination :blagblah

Ignore these people, and carry on having much fun :thumb2

..✅...........if you have a spare grand or more to throw at the bike. Or spend a tenner on a link pipe and STILL have loads of fun, scare the shite out of kids etc......:clap
