Disappointed with my GS

Had to reschedule for the 8th of August , so I will update you all after that, hopefully the improvements will justify the costs !

I know what you mean about the GSA. I bought mine new in June last year and was a bit underwhelmed with it tbh. I had a 1200 Multistrada and a 1000 Versys and both were way quicker with the Multi being way more exciting. Luckily I also have a Triumph Street Triple which I use for fun riding. If I only could only have one bike then the GSA would go as it's just not exciting enough for me.
However I came back from doing the Wild Atlantic Way a couple of weeks ago on it and did 2200 in a week and have to say it was perfect for the job. (apart from the seat, need to sort that out).
Also on the bumpy back B roads of the Norfolk coast a few weeks ago my brother in law on his new Yam R1M was struggling to keep up purely just because of the torque coming out of the sharp 90 degree corners.
As a bike to have as your only bike I would imagine the KTM 1290 or Ducati 1200 DVT would be a more fun prospect and just as comfy, but as a tourer/commuter with loads of instant grunt the GSA does it and I'm slowly warming to it.
I've now done 9000 miles in 13 months on it and it has been 100% reliable. Nothing has gone wrong (touch wood). I would say stick with it a while longer, it probably will grow on you.

OK Guys;
Had the bike Hilltopped today and the difference is significant , standard was 96 bhp ( at back wheel) and max torque @ 68 Ft/lb , now it reads 112bhp (at back wheel) & 84 Ft/lb, the ride home was unbelievable almost like I came home on a different bike ! The only issue and I don't think its connected to Hilltop is that the Cat is running really hot and pumping out so much heat that it made it uncomfortable to ride at times , not sure what the possible cause/causes could be but its turned the cat Blue

I used to be dissapointed with lots of things but after seeing tragedies related to the cancer wards my beloved has been in.
I'm now Super Contented wish I hadn't learnt this the hard way.

That certainly puts it into perspective.

I've got a ktm superduke, zx10 and a GS. Obviously the GS can't compete at all with 180 and 190 hp.

But it is not all about max power. I feel the gs is actually very refined and great fun on a crappy road/track. Great for touring and quite practical.

The ktm and zx10 would murder it anywhere else though. Now we,ll have the elite riders on here saying that it's not about the bike and a gs would beat a HP2 etc etc. Bollocks. It's a heavy, slow turning dinosaur that can't compete on speed alone. It's not all about speed.

Also did that chap say that after being hilltopped it went from 97 to 117 hp? Don't believe that. Would be great to see the charts.

One "Group Discount" slot left. Sept 16th 10:00. It's not all about BHP, but consistently higher torque through the whole rev range.
PM me to book.

No it went from 97 to 112 BHP , which is still very good but the real impact is the increase in the Torque and the difference it makes to normal riding .

There are a lot of comments on here how Hilltop have managed to get as much as 20bhp out of the GS motors. Having spoken to other tuners who have their own dynos and tune engines, they say typically you get 3 to 4 bhp extra with an end can change and maybe 4 to 5 bhp with a full system, and possibly similar with a remap depending on other modifications, such as gas flowing etc. Hence I am sceptical about the increases stated, which makes me wonder if a full power dyno run is being done prior to the remap, and hence the big differences in the before and after figures. I'd be interested to see the dyno graphs.

I certainly hope what people are reporting is true as I'd like to have my bike done.

My RT showed different correction factors pre and post runs - quite why I don't know. It did feel better - but not 20% better.

My guess is the bikes do perform better (smoother etc), but are not 20+% more powerful.

After all, how many owners would go there for a 3bhp gain, rather than 20%?

Yes they are true, use the search then you can waste all the time in the world looking at the, literally, hundreds of posts on the matter.
You can boil it down to..... those who have had it done believe, it those that haven't don't.

You're focussing on the figures too much, rather than the seat of the pants improvement. My KTM gained about 4bhp, and a load more torque. Although disappointed that the figures weren't higher, the minute I rode down the road, the bike was transformed, and I couldn't care less about the before and after figures.

Maybe. The main point that attracted me was the huge gain claims, backed up by all of the positive reviews - after having a few Blackbirds previously I did sometimes miss the power.

The bike did feel smoother and would definitely pull one gear higher at pretty much any given speed, but was it 20% more powerful - not a chance in hell.

My 2007 RT is much more powerful than any of the 'before' runs I've seen on here - according to the remap figures, but It was much slower than any LC I've ridden. I'm massively dubious about the pre remap numbers.

Sums it up exactly. When my first LC was done I could feel the difference immediately when driving along the High Street as I left Geoff's. Power Commanders have never ever left me that impressed and definitely not within 100 metres.
Its the only fuelling mod I will now use. I have had 4 bikes there since with superb and very noticeable improvements on performance but more importantly throttle response.
As Nutty said the numbers are irrelevant. There is a number of people on here who would twist on 21 playing pontoon. The proof is the huge number of his satisfied customers. I'm sure Geoff said he's done over 800 GS's !!!
