Disc Lock - Reminder

This might be of interest to some...

On my 1200 adv I used a panier lock cap and put it in the ignition to remind me that I had the disc lock on.

So now what do I do with no key ignition? I know many use the bungee cord on to the handle bars. I was going to machine up a plastic cover to sit over the ignition that would remind me to do the disc lock.
But before I did that I had a look on the tinterweb and on AliExpress I found rubber covers for the ignition in various colours. So purchased a few for me, BIL and sister for their bikes.

Fits nicely in the tank compartment with the roadlock.

The flaw is you’ve got to remember to put the cap on after you’ve attached the disc lock. Two separate things.

With a bungee/wire solution attached to the disc lock you have to loop it on the handle bar. It’s making you do something. One thing.

And trust me, you only pull off with it attached once!!!

True but keeping it n the tank compartment with the roadlock will reduce that happening..

The other flaw is as it's so easy to remove someone might nick it while you're away from the bike.
 
I use a bungee that lives with the disclock but if it works you then all well and good.

I do like the idea of this though. Especially now I’m keyless. Will look them up
 
And whilst we are talking about using disc locks.


After literally decades of using them, a few years ago I was in a rush, secured the lock and omitted the yellow spring bungy thing, oh never mind I won’t forget…

Result, yep, I drove off and damaged the disc and mount.


So,
Lesson #1
Always use the stretchy reminder thingy

Lesson #2
Put the lock on behind the fork leg so that the wheel can only rotate a few inches, rather than allow it to travel a couple or three feet before it crashes into the fork.
 
Rubbish. Managed it 3 times in 33 years.
I empathise with twice 33 years but my shame score will be huge.

1st time was in the car park at Cadwell Park having completed their race school.

Second was on my own drive, pulling away in front of the wife.
 
I wrap the bright yellow disc lock tell-tale springy lead around the throttle grip before hooking the open end over the brake lever - can't miss it.

Bright yellow springy tell-tale lead is permanetly attached to the disc lock.
 
I have a piece of 4mm Dyneema being a dinghy sailor that's bright orange & I attached that from my disc lock to my throttle...
 
I use the little stoarge bag that the disc lock lives in when not in use .. pop it over one of the mirrors
 
Black gaffer tape over the GPS blank thing with remove disk lock written on it in marker pen.
Helps that it's one of those BMW dick locks which alarms when you turn the bars so bit obvious it's still on. (famous last words)

oxford sell a hi-vis spirally cord that you attach one end to the disc lock and the other wrap around the throttle and grip. if you cant manage this i'd suggest taking the car may be advisiible
