I know that the header pipes go blue after a while but on my new twincam after 700 miles they seem to be discoloured unevenly the left hand side is worse than the right any one else noticed this ? bike seems to run ok a little uneven on idle but nothing to sugest a problem

The blueing is oxydation and uneven and patchy marks on chrome headers can sometimes be caused by contamination such as oil or water splashes on the pipes prior to them heating up. Clean them up with Autosol and start again with clean pipes on a dry day!:thumb

Its not the discolouring that conserns me its the uneveness of the two pipes it sugests that one cylinder is running hotter didnt notice on my 08 model both were quite even

It's a couple of inches shorter before the bend, so it will run hotter.

That's what I've always assumed anyway :nenau

Sit idling in traffic for a few minutes in summer and they will both heat up to cherry red and cool down to a pretty blue.

It's normal

Clean them up with Autosol ....

I wouldn't advise using Autosol on chrome, it cleans it up, but to a dull, matt, shine. As I found out when a colleague decided to show a mate how good Autosol was on the chrome headers of my last GS whilst I popped in to his house to use the loo. That little patch he did, before I stopped him, always stood out like a sore thumb.

Not found that to be the case with either of my GS's with chromed headers. Mine always polish up like new. Your colleague didn't apply it with a brillo pad did he?

I just wrap up my headers with black exhaust wrap and I have a pece off mind
It looks so cool in TB :thumb

I've read about cracked headers as a result of using exhaust wrap. How many others on here have used a wrap, and has it caused any problems?
