Im slowly wishing i had stayed clear of the BMW R1200GS,The potential fuel strip fault, the potential
final drive fault, the potential fuel sender fault, i seem to have the dreaded fuel strip fault, so do i have the rest to look forward to,

This is not a bike that i think i would feel comfortable taking on a long european trip.
i have a good 1200gs, but all the problems that are highlighted on this site worry me.

Do i really need to replace the fuel sender to a black top from a silver top one,
because they are so called prone to failing.

come on guys, i need to love my bike again give me some reassurance, that these are actually
great reliable bikes.

I'd carry a spare FPC or the workaround lead. I'm on my 3rd.

Kept my 2004 model from new: 9+ years and 70,700 miles, including a trip to Romania, being the furthest of a few.

It's my only bike, so I'm either stupid (quiet at the back) or the bike's pretty damned good.

Hey Robbie, you read too much.
These are actually great reliable bikes.
Well mine is!

I'm gonna top meself......

Potential kidney failure, potential heart failure, potential death from old age......ebola, bird flu, measles......

I had a headache this morning, so I guess I've got all the rest to look forwards to.....this is not a body I feel willing to risk on a long walk around the park with the dog :(

key word highlighted for your convenience :D

i've done thousands of miles with other 1200s on european trips and the only breakdown i've ever seen was a failed FPC unit. i had a spare and fixed it, off in 15 minutes. that was years ago, and that component has now been successfully updated by bmw :)

Thanks guys feel much better now, who`s up for 3 weeks to morocco,

robbie i'll test your bike first on a trans europe run & hammer it for you & let you know if its ok then you can use it safe in the knowledge its ok & i can save some serious mileage on mine.sorted.just make sure you've got recovery/rescue or you will kick yourself in the balls when you get ass raped with charges if you do need help.

Hahahahahahahaha, i wouldn`t go any where without the right cover, was just getting pissed off with BMW
after reading all the faults that have arisen on BMW bikes and the c_nt_ are reluctant to recall and repair.

i have a 18k miles bike that has a full BMW service history that has been serviced every 2k miles. im happy
to take it anywhere in the world, as you said, no worries with the right level of cover. though the fuel strip situation is really
pissing me off.

Wrong Bike!

Hey Robbie, you should have bought an 1100 or 1150:hide - they very rarely give any trouble:rolleyes:

Cheers..............Grizzly:beerjug:
