I'm going to be doing a bit of laning on my 1150 and I'm looking for a steering hard-part, but there's no way that I'm paying list price to TT for one - just shy of £100 for a silver one or a tenner less for the tasteful yellow one.
I'd be interested in having a go at cutting up an old knobbly and using a tyre block on each side, like others have done in the past. For the people who have done this before, I'm guessing that you used glue or similar to hold the blocks in place as there's nowhere to cable tie to that I can see. I'm looking for a glue that will hold well enough for the job but which won't peel off the coating when removing the blocks, or leave a massive immovable blob behind if the experiment fails horribly.
I reckon that silicone sealant would be a good start - what does the collective think?
