DIY light bars (1100GS).....

Thinking, foolishly or not, of making my own light bar for the 1100GS from some 20mm Square Aluminium Tube (eBay item 270431937577).

So can anyone tell me the con's in doing this? I know I could buy one for £25 odd quid from the forum but where's the fun in that?

I suppose the main question I have is whethere I should be using something like shear bolts to hold the bar on which will snap should I have an off, and save doing any damage to the bike?

The other question I have is could someone take 30 seconds and measure the length of their lightbar?

I would be more inclined to make it of mild steel flat bar, so it could be bent into shape, and then paint it after you're done. Depending on the size of lights you're thinking of fitting, you may obscure the indicators using a straight bar if you are attaching it under the beak.

I made a two small brackets out of a plastic bicycle brake lever clamps and they fit around my H&B tank bars, it works a treat and they are totally adjustable.

nothing foolish about making your own stuff, as for lightbar, i used oval tube, i then ran the wires through the tubing
as for size thats up to you and the lights your mounting.

this is mine mounted underneath (this ws taken during the making up of it all) all very simple

where they built a light bar with mounting bracket for the HID ballast....

if you're worried about crash damage - cut the bar in two in the middle.

Then if you crash , they'll swivel backwards without bending the upper subframe

yes fog lights, and they are ok, not brill

but they are good when foggy


for 25 quid i think, they work, but dont expect it to be amazing
