…..I probably asked this before, if using a phone rather than a dedicated gps, do I need MRA Routeplanner and Route-App? Cheers

I have started you a fresh thread.

I believe you need both but I'm not sure. Your best bet would be to e-mail them and ask. Also My-route app is best for roads so if doing a bit/lot of offroading OSMand might be a better bet? Sorry not that helpful.

I just the leave the routes on MRA, planned on the PC and load it up on my phone (Route-App) for Navigation.

Works well.

Saves that extra step of getting the file onto the Nav6 (for that you need to plug in into a PC)

I would if it was easier… such as through the Garmin app (smartphone link app)

Actually planning a route on your phone to send to the nav is rubbish, the “pick a location” option is useless

The Garmin Nav6 is a decent unit let down by a crap connecting app.

I notice the new GS1300 has the option of a connect cradle for your phone instead of a sat nav now.

To answer your question: You need the MyRoute-app in order to navigate.

You create routes in Routeplanner and then (assuming you want to stay within the MyRoute family) you navigate the route via the separate MyRoute-app. If you want to navigate the route you created via, say, a Garmin or TomTom device, the same applies. Create the route in Routeplanner and then send it to your Garmin or TomTom device.

Though Routeplanner and and the MyRoute-app are separate entities (one for route creation, the other for route navigation) they are now interlinked seamlessly.

If you just want to be told how to navigate from A to B, say from Dublin to Cork, you can do it just in the My-Route app. Though for anything more complex or for bespoke routes that you might create yourself, you’ll need, Routeplanner.
