like the unchromed original down pipes??

I've got some spare cash from selling the bling from my old bike and am looking for something to spend it on my new one.

It will match the brown bubbling corrosion when your alternator cover corrodes later on.

Not 3 years down the road you cant............"£160 sir, thankyou very much, oh and we have charged you another £25 because we had to remove your crash bars first"Have a nice day..........

You are one angry man , what exactly is the problem with your bike ? If you don't like the bike sell it or ask the dealer to fix the problem . Maybe I was just lucky , I am on my 10Th BM and I didt had any mechanical/electrical problems ...Ever . Corrosion yes .
You remind me of a German bloke who used to go on about the servo breaks , until he got banned from every BM forum on the planet .

That German now is head of BMW MOTTARAAD.
Forget ban the bomb, ban the Bmw current designers from ever working again.

Yes they go brown but it'll polish off and you can easily get it back to a chrome-like finish if that's what you want.

It's easier if the headers are off the bike before you start. Give the discoloured bits a coat of something like 'wonder wheels' which will shift a fair amount of the brown stuff, then polish them up with a polishing mop on an electric drill. Use a proper stainless steel polishing compound from someone like:

http://www.cetempolishing.co.uk/

If you use a compound made for say alloy, it'll not do the job as easy as it's too soft.

Even a few winter's worth of discolouration can be shifted in an hour or so and they will come back as good as new.

DON'T try this on anything chromed unless you want it de-chromed!

The headers going brown is the last thing you should be worrying about.
Its the rot and bubbling in all the other areas you should be keeping an eye on.
Still , the oil from the leaking seals should protect some of it.

Thats not bear shit in the woods, thats oily sludge from the leaking seals.

If it is I'm glad I got the "chromed" headers as the blue looks IMHO much better.
...........up until the point that the chorme falls off :blast :D
