So I took a new 1200GSA LC out for a test ride the other day and whilst mightily impressed with the ride, I was surprised by the excessive constant "whooshing" noise from the front end! Best way to describe it was like a knackered wheel-bearing on a car.
Dealer said it was down to tyre noise but is that right? It was pretty off putting at slow speed (and yes, I did try another bike and it was on there too!)
Certainly wasnt there on my old 1150 GSA:rob

I would agree with the dealer about tyre noise, massive difference with different tyres.

I would deffo say the Anakee 3 - my 15 bike came with them - changed to Avon Trail rider for better feel and some peace. Just collect an 18 with the A3's again - boy they seem even noisier and you do get wooshing if you sit at a constant speed with your visor open.

Tyre noise combined with wind noise from turbulence caused by the air flow up the inside of the screen around the sat nav mount, if the bike has not got the nav5/6 mount fitted it is noticeably quieter

As mentioned most of the noise is from the tyres. I've had 2 sets of Anakee 3's and 1 set of PR4's and all have been noisy however have just had fitted Pirelli Scorpion trail 2's and they are really quiet. Pleased with them so far...

I have the Anakee 3s and get the high speed howl from them, but I'd put the whooshing sound down to wind over plastic, possibly emanating from low down inside the screen. I'd be stoked to know it's not that though! Does that noise also go away with a change of tyre?

My test ride machine produced the sound you mention - it sounded like tyres to me, so I had them changed on the bike I ordered.

I went for Dunlops and sold the A3's on here.

And did that cure both the howling and the whooshing?

It also seems to be worse on the GS/GSA. The sharp and size of the space around the forks coming up to the handle bars seem to act like an echo chamber and make the Anakee 3 even worse.
I rode an RS which had Anakee 3 and while the tyre noise was there it was much less. I think someone on here added some sound deadening material to some affect. Or just use other tyres.

Dunno - I've not ridden it yet due to the salty roads - delivered and sat in the garage since :(.

I changed them as I wanted road tyres on what will be a road bike.

Always used to have Metzler tourance fitted before. Are these no longer the tyre of choice for the GS community??

I had A III's fitted to my my2016 GS as standard and changed them for tourance nexts which I thought were a far better tyre. TBH I never noticed any tyre noise on my standard GS from the A III's but the TN's were more confidence inspiring and seemed to turn quicker but that was in comparison to the A III's that had done 7500 miles
