I've been unlucky with punctures of late - 3 nails picked up in the space of 4 months (one each in 2 rear tyres - one 3 days old AAARRGGHH) and one in the front

I've got some long rides to look forward to this summer and can't stand the thought of them being buggered up by tiny bits of scrap metal in me rubber (ooo-er)

You hardened long distance merchants - do you use Ultraseal or not - opinions would be welcomed!

:)

I had the stuff in I could not cope with a slow puncture, but worse than that I had an horrendous front blow out on the M6 two up with luggage and all the stuff did was paint everything bright green.

Don't use it.
Get yourself a Tyre Plugger repair kit instead. Much better solution.:thumb

Ultraseal

Had Ultraseal in until tyres changed last week-end. When they were removed there was a luvly pink coating all over the inside of both tyres and a pink mess all over the tyrefitter.

Manager was telling me that all that liquid swilling around the tyre would upset the balance. Can't say I noticed any unusual vibrations and will probably insert some more into the new tyres.

Does that count as a yes or no vote?

Ultra Seal is red

Perhaps you had another make of tyre sealant?

...need to tell tyre fitter its in there...they then just let the tyre pressure down slowly...rather than remove the valve completely.

....it doesn't 'swill' as its a thixotropic liquid and seems to coat evenly.

Only know all this from Farnell mobile tyre fitter who did mine recently!!

Dave, I usually run with Ultraseal and swear by it. Definitely saved me a very nasty blowout on my Goldwing last year in France. Ok, the tyre still went flat, but in a controlled way, allowing me to bring the bike to a stop safely. The tyre fitter who changed the tyre at Portsmouth reckoned that from the size of the hole we were very, very lucky.

So I will stick with Ultraseal, it's not cheap, but think of the cost in both money and pain in throwing a fully loaded 2up Goldwing down the road.

See you pm tomorrow:beerjug:

Been using it for the last 12 month's on my daily 50 mile commute into London & have not had a puncture, I was regulary getting them before to the extent that in a six month period I had to replace TWO back tyres as the repair guy said that three plugs is the limit for tyre repairs. I have also noticed that I'm getting about another 2/3 thousand miles out of my rubber.
So as far as I'm concerned for the money you can't go wrong
PS Ultraseal is Red. Slime [another product is Green]:illbe

Not on the current, 'it'll do if i have to while i wait til i can get me gs' bike, but after four punctures on my Funduro while i was courier-ing, yes, definately.

I reckon it saved me one puncture a fortnight, from the hardware lodged in the tyre.

That'll be riding up the middle of the road and dodging round islands all the time then hehehehe

It wasn't Ultraseal though...some other green stuff.......it amused the kids no end..."Look, dad's putting snot in his motorbike!"

:D

To Slime or not to Slime, that is the question

I bought some Slime a couple of years ago but haven't used it and its still sitting on the shelpf looking at me. My biggest fear is being present when the tyre fitter has to replace the tyre. I don't want to spend the rest of my life walking around with a tyre lever up my arse....

Anybody used "Slime"?

Martyn

cor how pleased am I you all think about us Tyre Fitters
getting Ultraseal over us
All I will say if you use Ultraseal Just tell the fitter You have it in the Tyres
save your own arse, we can have a shower every night after work

But Thanks Folks :D

oh yes thats a NO for me

Why No terry

So terry expand a little, is it because you don't rate it or that it is a pain in the ass for your trade?

Just curious as you are somewhat of a expert on the subject of tyres.

Cheers, Nick

Umm

I put ultraseal in to go to Morocco last month. Didn't get a puncture, but I wondering if I am the only person who is using the stuff to be concerned about

a) The additional unsprung weight, and

b) The way the tyres lose their heat much more quickly. (I know heat dissipation is good for tyre longevity, but it doesn't aid grip)

??????

yes

can't see or feel any negatives and the positives are obvious

I have Ultraseal in my tyres, I havn't had the pleasure of 'testing' as yet, hopefully I never will:rolleyes: , but then you never know:D

Hi David

a] due to its thixotropic properties it seems to distribute quite evenly and the weight gain is probably less than me on the bike after a meal!

b] I enjoy throwing the bike about as well and have not found that the slightly lower running temperature of my tyres [Tourance] has made any difference - in fact it probably dissipates the heat more evenly through the tyre, where it has coated the inside.

Your meal is unlikely to be 'unsprung' weight though.....unless you vomit it over your wheel after eating ;)

I personally felt the bike was more reluctant to turn in, and less stable cranked over on bumpy bends. Now the tyres are worn I have noticed a rather strange tyre wear pattern as well.

Heat dissapation just concerned me after I had 'moments' of loss of front grip three times, on all occassions just after brief stops. Just seemed the tyres lost grip when I wasn't expecting it. I have since adapted to re-warming the tyres after any stop.

Tyres are due for replacement (again), so it will be interesting for me to have none ultrasealed tyres once more.

I had something go through my rear tyre yesterday! Made a 6mm hole!
Ultra seal coated the underside of the rear mudguard and then sealed-bloody fantastic!:D
I then had to travel at high speeds for most of the day. No trouble at all
Very little pressure loss:beerjug:

This is my first time with Ultraseal in the front...interesting about the turning in, have to admit it does seem slightly 'heavier' probably as you had said about weight - the extra weight/centrifugal forces incurred - good point. No noticeable loss/change of grip for me though? Was it at the same time the sparks were flying from your peg/cylinder head??;)

My last Tourance [non ultraseal] had a cupping wear patten. I will see how it is when I come to changing it having had Ultraseal in it.

I do feel a lot happier having it in as I commute/filter a lot, putting myself through areas where all the nasty sharp bits can tend to collect, unfortunately. What anti's there are, for me, are outweighed by the Pro's.
