Doc does Cologne

When I was in Cologne, the Kolsch was actually served in 0.2L glasses…..

A few years ago, the former (very large) Gerling insurance company (HQ in Cologne) brought barrels of Kolsch and the appropriate glasses over, for a tip-top evening on the lash in London. In essence, anything the Munich Re could do by hosting a ‘Munich beer festival’ in London, Gerling from the Protestant north could do better. They weren’t wrong.

The Gerling also used to invite some brokers over for ‘Carnival’ in Cologne. Another tip-top invitation and not for the faint hearted or light of kidney function.

Stopping here so we are pretty close to everything.

It’ll look a lot better than it did in 1945.

Your hotel (roughly where the cross is) would have been very noisy that night and very draughty thereafter:

After a few days there I was smitten and bought a box of the little fuckers. I normally drink German beer out of them back home still. Slightly gay, but trust me!! lol
Where’s your son’s bar?
Wigan??
Ashton-in-Makerfield, in the borough of Wigan.

Have a good trip Doc.
I can't remember much about Cologne, the sewerage talk sounds like shit, but we did do the cathedral tour, then everything became a haze following a schnapps tasting afternoon. Gottingen was more my thing.

Looking like it's going to be a windy flight put tomorrow. Fingers crossed no delays.

Decent room.
This paying and ordering from an app is a pain in ass.20250122_182057.jpg 20250122_174723.jpg
