I found that putting small squares of masking tape over all the microphone holes damps the wind noise down conciderably without killing all the sound.

Love Germany and that looks an interesting area to visit. Away from the tourist areas of Cochem and the Eifel. Will think about something for next year so will be picking your brains @Doc for hotels and places to stop
