That description of yours….I’m not feeling it either… somehow Spain just doesn’t cut it for me, good (empty) roads and scenery, cheap coffee and beer, rest of it, less attractive. Food is a like playing Russian Roulette for me, been to Spain twice, had same outcome.
Perhaps if I do my own trip rather than in the group and dine from a supermarket, I’d enjoy it more. Even then I am still sat on the fence as it is a bit of a gamble. I’d sooner ride down to Italy to be honest and possibly cross into Slovenia, returning via Austria, Germany etc.
Yes, it would, but we don’t. There are still a lot of trucks on the roads in Germany, despite having a huge network of rivers/canals.Just imagine if we had waterways cross crossing the country which could be used for transporting bulky goods…
The heavies don't run at the weekend if i remember correctly; or that could be from Saturday noon till Monday.Brew stop. So far weather is good and no trucks on the roads.

I believe that some of the wood pellets for making electric are delivered to Drax by canal barge. One would think that some of the less time critical deliveries could be made by barge.

I was being ironic.
We used to have a dense network of local and national canals and railways which were the answer to a problem that hadn’t yet arisen, namely efficient and environmentally appropriate mass transport of people and goods. They have systematically been destroyed in the drive to ‘modernise’.
Some places are finally noting that the trams and trains of yesteryear are a good thing… perhaps the canal system will be next?
I knew that's what you were implying. That's why I wrote what I wrote in response. The scale of canals in this country (even if they were in use) is nothing on the scale of Germany for example. Using canals in the UK to transport goods to the scale required is merely a delusional pipe dream.
