Fridays aren’t so great, shite bands in most places, Rachel who did a good Friday gig at a local bar has thrown a diva wobbly and not playing there at the moment, plus the night goes on until 3am
I’m usually laying low after Thursday night and preparing for Saturday
Those that are having a curry on Thursday, know the form. I don’t know yet if I can make it.
Friday, I am happy to do the East London / DLR and boat trip / Pie Mash & Liquor and City thing. Meet at Tower Gateway at 09:30. If anyone wishes to join, please let the thread know.
I had hoped to offer the West End jaunt on Saturday, too. However, I have now (as of yesterday) been pressed into duty at my aunt’s 87th birthday party in Northamptonshire on Saturday, which is a three-line whip. This will involve me going to my 90 year-old mother’s in Warwickshire on Friday evening, after the East London jaunt, for taxi duties. I don’t mind, as it’s not every day someone has an 87th birthday party. That said, if Doc wants to do Harrods etc on Saturday, that’s easy from his Kings Cross hotel.
For the Saturday, especially if the weather is kind, I’d suggest Doc does the ‘Big Bus Tours’ Red Route jaunt, not least as you can hop on and off at will.

As regards post curry beers on Thursday, Brick Lane is not over blessed with pubs, whilst Shoreditch has fallen to the uber trendy generation.
I’d suggest, only as it’s very close, The Well & Bucket on Bethnal Green Road, which is just a short walk away from Brick Lane.
Failing that, go inwards:
Hoop and Grapes, Aldgate
The Old Tea House, Creechurch Lane
The Princess of Prussia, Prescot Street
The Brown Bear, Leman Street
Modern pub, large, would be the Moretown Belle, opposite Waitrose, close by St Katherine Dock
The Dickens Inn, on St Katherine Dock
The Prospect of Whitby / Captain Kidd / Town of Ramsgate in Wapping. The Town of Ramsgate may well be very busy (it’s not a large pub) on Thursday, so the Prospect of Whitby might well be a better bet, as it’s larger. Likewise, the Captain Kidd.
I will be in the Standard tomorrow and will ensure the new owners know about of our reservation. We will get our 20% discount.
Food is just as good under the new owners although prices have risen but so have the portion sizes.
Reference pubs before or after, I wont join but post #207 seems to have been your previous suggestion Wappers.
I still have the following list of 7 for curry at 1800
Yup, I simply updated it to give a bit more choice.
For example, the Standard to the Hoop and Grapes at Aldgate is about 12 minutes walk. Aldgate tube is also very convenient for Kings Cross, arguably better than the Bethnal Green Road.
The Standard to the Princess of Prussia is a little further, but not far:
Hey
Just wanted to confirm the plan for next Thursday. So, it’s the Standard Balti in Brick Lane next Thursday at 6?. Looks like it’s close to Liverpool Street station??
I’m staying near Euston Station - so assume easy enough on tube?
