Doc does London 2025 ( or wants to 🤔 ) - Thursday 13th March - A date for your diary

Then it’s off the boat and back onto dry land. In this picture, you can see Tower Bridge and, above the bod in the reddish cap, the ‘snail shell’ HQ of the Mayor of London on the south bank of the Thames, just up from HMS Belfast:

You're a bit behind the times, the mayor and his cronies moved out in 2022 they now reside near Canning Town, Kamal Chunchie Way E16 1ZE. another whizzy building nearer his electorate...

Every day, a schoolday. It shows how much interest I take in the mayor of London and indeed, anything south of Tower Bridge.

I was reading that they intend to refit the former ‘City Hall’ with balconies.

Due to the meandering of the Thames, there's a lot of "Sarf of the river" further north than Wapping..

Just my return train ticket to book and everything else is sorted. looking forward to it.

Do we have a dinner venue yet? Depending on how many we might need to book something up.
Steptoe suggested pie and mash. Are our visitors up for this? Can the venue accommodate a group?

Return is £80ish if you book early enough.
£65 going down Ev from Leeds and 1st class so thought that wasn't bed

Dinner as in lunch?

I clocked up six and a half miles on foot between 09:30 at Tower Gateway and 14:00 at Aldwych, with a twenty minute stop for a sandwich on Cannon Street.

The pie and mash shop is south of the river, past Tower Bridge. I know it well. It’s a 20 minute walk from the north end of Tower Bridge.

Like many things in life, it depends on when the circus gets rolling and how fast (or slowly) the gaggle moves along and, not least, where and when bods want to finish. If people want to visit every half decent pub as well…….

6.5 miles is a long walk and not much point if it's only a whistle stop tour, I reckon you'll easily take over an hour to wander round the Tower, St Katherine Dock and Trinity Square, don't forget he's a country mouse so there will be a lot of Oohing and Ahhing at all they sights and sounds. Just a thought, as most of the participants are experienced at riding bikes and that the Capital is covered with safe cycle lanes, what about hiring Santander or even some of those wretched Lime bikes to tour on? You can take bikes on the river bus just need to polish up the drop off system. Or even better hire one of those cycling bar things, you shouldn't lose anyone and refreshments are within an arms length.

As in Dinner.....
This is a normal working day for me so will be able to join in the evening for a dinner and beers only.
If there are other plans for a bigger tour for the whole day that's great of course but I can only join for the evening.....

Well i Arrive Thursday afternoon so will be looking to do a bit of something Thursday and obviously something to eat. Then Friday & Saturday.

And thanks Richard for you efforts for my trip. Looks as though I will need a holiday after.
How far am I away from you lads that live there ? I'm at King's Cross.

From me:

By car estimated time, anywhere from 20 to 50 minutes / 4.7 miles

By Transport for London 40 minutes

By foot 1 hour 35 minutes / 4.5 miles

By bicycle 35 minutes / 5.1 miles

It’s a big place, London.

Oh further than I thought it would be. Thought I could walk round for a fry up.

From me you’d have to take a tube (a few minutes) or walk (10-15 minutes I guess) from Kings Cross to Euston, then take a train to Watford. If you take a Lioness line (50 minutes) or circa 15-17 minutes on a fast London Northwestern Railway train. Then walk for 30 minutes, or 35-40 minutes for a fellow short in the leg 🤪.
