Heading to Volendam today and this little island. Try and follow the coast down as much as possible.

Arrived in Volendam. Followed the coast road as much as we could but a lot of road works and sand. Thick sand over the road and a big bike don't mix.

Great Trip. I've done the ''roads over the water ride'' but never headed up to the Islands! How long you staying over in NL for?

We will have done five nights. Have to say it's worth a visit. Having the good weather has helped.

Normally NL is a bit boring. Too many speed humps on B roads and generally long straights and little to get excited about. Going to the Islands is different. Only other part I can recommend is the East side along the German border and South East round by Maastricht
Will maybe plan a weekend up to Texel later this year after having seen your photos.

Couldn't find a charging socket on the bike. ;)

Thanks for posting this, it brings back memories of a trip on my Yam XTZ1200 me and Mrs FatAl did six years ago. We stayed in Volendam for several days and took a boat ride over to Marken, do you remember the film 'Puppet on a chain' based on the Alaister Maclean novel? it was filmed around there. The walk from Volendam to Edam along the dyke tops was a pleasant day out as well.

Enjoy the rest of your trip :thumb

Don't know the film. Haven't see a fellow English biker all holiday.

We didn't see any either, I think Holland is off the radar to some extent. They have lovely towns and villages, but the quality of the ride is a little lacking, in part I think to the speed restrictions and traffic calming. I'd still go back though, I have relatives in Rotterdam who we used to frequently visit, handy for a pre ferry stopover as well.

:beerjug:

For us it was a short trip off the ferry and it looked nice. And yes we have encountered every speed hump known to man. Twats on push bikes and scooters.

Bit of a downer on the trip. Filled up the bike at a small card only petrol station. Did the usual card number and took the petrol nearly 40 euros. Jayne checked banking today and we were charged 108 uk pounds. Not sure what has happened but Jayne rang the bank. Currently payment is pending but once cleared bank will hopefully sort it. She remembers payment on pump was just under 40 euros so wonder if it didn't re set when I put nozzle back in and someone has had a free refill on us.

They do that a lot abroad at fuel stations. They take the amount charged and refund the rest. Normally within 24 hours. I wouldn’t worry too much.

? Why would I get charged £108 for 40 euros of fuel.

They pre authorise the amount it would normally cost to fill a car, and this amount is shown on your card as spent....it should be corrected very quickly and the correct amount taken. I got fed up with Caxton holding my account for ransom....they were taking days to collect the correct amount...and ditched Caxton completely. You should find your correct balance back within hours.
