What a great day out this was! Met around 9am on Sunday morning, and headed north on the M6 just past Preston. Once we got off the motorway, and into Longridge where the first lane was, we followed the GDB route that Phil Young kindly posted on the forum. There's some lovely little lanes and tracks. The first one was no more than 4 feet wide, overgrown with brambles, and basically mud, with a couple of little water crossings when it opened up a bit. Didn't get any pics unfortunately, but it was a nice start to the day, and the 12GSA's revelled in it!

A couple of lovely lanes later, we got to the Slaidburn end of Salter Fell. What a trail!!:D First 3 miles are nice and straight forward, then we hit the rocky section that MickDB told us about!! It's basically a hill of around 300m long, with an incline of around 20%-22% (1-4/5) at a guess, that has been 'paved' with football size rocks:eek: Lesson 1 - Was a bit too close to Doc, so when he hit the rough stuff, started bouncing around everywhere, and slowed down, I was too close to maintain momentum and didn't feather the clutch in time to keep the bike ticking....Stalled!! Re-started, and couldn't get the bike out of the rocks and rubble I was in, back wheel spinning, digging a bigger and bigger hole, clutch burning:eek: A bit of heaving, revving, rocking, and pushing, and I eventually managed to ride it up...Phew..

Anyway, Salter Fell is 9 miles long, and stunning......

Team double T

Steve, the irony of the day is...once you snap a spottie off your laning skills change like popeye after a can of spinach... I can see a patern forming, better get some more zip ties eh ?:D:D:D

Steve, great photos good write up - what a great day out thanks again to Paul Young for the nav file.:beerjug:

The views from Salter fell were really great, especially by the walkers along the trail who were priveliged to see 'team double T':beerjug::beerjug:

Mick,

The Keswick one sounds like a challenge, when do you want to do it ?

I've a couple of photos that I'll post later but Steve captured all of the good shots :thumb:thumb

'Team Double T'....Those walkers were indeed honoured! In fact, now I come to think of it, at the beginning and end of almost every lane there were people waiting to open and close gates for us (people of the forum, I sh1t you not! It's true!) We must have looked like riding gods......word must have spread we were in the area.....

Here is offending spot...

Would just like to say....If anyone from our neck of the woods is going laning...you can't go wrong with Doc savage on your team. He's the first guy there to help when the shit hits the fan. He was there to save my bike from drowning in a river at the bunkhouse weekend upto his knees in freezing water along with Rudiemoto, and there running down the hill to help me get out of the hole I dug myself in the rubble on salter fell. Fecking A1+ Team player!!!! The kind of guy you can rely on.....

Doc Savage.....:clap:clap:clap:clap
