What a great day out this was! Met around 9am on Sunday morning, and headed north on the M6 just past Preston. Once we got off the motorway, and into Longridge where the first lane was, we followed the GDB route that Phil Young kindly posted on the forum. There's some lovely little lanes and tracks. The first one was no more than 4 feet wide, overgrown with brambles, and basically mud, with a couple of little water crossings when it opened up a bit. Didn't get any pics unfortunately, but it was a nice start to the day, and the 12GSA's revelled in it!
A couple of lovely lanes later, we got to the Slaidburn end of Salter Fell. What a trail!!
First 3 miles are nice and straight forward, then we hit the rocky section that MickDB told us about!! It's basically a hill of around 300m long, with an incline of around 20%-22% (1-4/5) at a guess, that has been 'paved' with football size rocks
Lesson 1 - Was a bit too close to Doc, so when he hit the rough stuff, started bouncing around everywhere, and slowed down, I was too close to maintain momentum and didn't feather the clutch in time to keep the bike ticking....Stalled!! Re-started, and couldn't get the bike out of the rocks and rubble I was in, back wheel spinning, digging a bigger and bigger hole, clutch burning
A bit of heaving, revving, rocking, and pushing, and I eventually managed to ride it up...Phew..
Anyway, Salter Fell is 9 miles long, and stunning......
When we got to the top, around half way, the views were breathtaking, the camera really didn't do justice...
The BEASTS in their natural habitat....
Doc loves posing for the camera...
Team Twat....
We did some 'Claudio' style action shooting..DOC
Me
Finally, a wind farm....
Terry, you'd have been pissed off, we had loads of fag breaks!! Jono, you'd have been pissed off, we didn't eat till 2:30!
We did around 150 miles in total, with about 13 miles of trails.......will definately be doing again sometime soon...
