Hey Grant, have you been to Rotterdam railway station? Saw a programme on the telly about it and a walk around with the architect. Looks stunning.

It is. Took them years to build but quite impressive. Like most railways stations these days here they have turned them into shopping places and tried to make them much nicer. Rotterdam station used to be a druggie hangout many years ago with users shooting up in the station foyers. All cleaned up now
The architecture behind it was fascinating.
Delay in boarding. No mention of a late sailing.
We generally don't come home on a Sunday.
Are most trucks not allowed on the M-ways ? Only a few on the roads.

trucks have been restricted in Europe for years. In france etcIIRC it starts at mid day Saturday till early monday, Unless carrying livestock or perishables.
But weirdly we used to have an exemption when returning from Italy as I had food products in my road barrel which wasn't perishable.

As others have Doc; there's been restrictions on heavies abroad at the weekends for years; you can usually make better progress on the motorways around Northern Europe Sat&Sun;; the trouble is the racing is on the weekend so you miss that;
But the trouble is, the ferry docks an hour later during the weekend. So you loose the benefit.Not wi out gravy and ketchup;

In mainland Europe, haulage is prohibited to operate during the weekend. I believe that restrictions do not apply to perishable goods being transported. It is to allow people visiting relatives and generally traveling over the weekend, in Germany this would result in fewer traffic jams on the motorways. I think it is a great system.
