Doc the boss and an Indian does France part two

First port of call today on our way to our next stay. Courtesy of the Captain.

A great read Doc.

Those lakes look good. Mrs S would not have let us pass those without having a swim! Looking forward to seeing pics of you taking a dip! :)

I like naked swimming.

That map misses off one of the best cols, col du bonnette , fantastic views from the top.

Dito. Not least as Cime de la Bonette (el. 2,860 metres or 9,383 feet) is surrounded by the second highest paved road in the Alpes. It is just a shame that the is no direct 3 lane motorway leading up to the top 😜, as one will have to endure a fair few hairpin turns to get there.

Halte 2000 is also an excellent mountain side cafe for a spot of lunch, located just 10 minutes ride bellow the summit and running solely on a power produced by a generator.

Certainly a crap view from the dining terrace.

I believe this is the highest paved road in the Alps.

Apparently this (Col de Sommelier) is the highest road in the Alps. I didn’t get to the top. Near but about 1km short. I did manage to drop my bike on the way down though. Never mind it’s only a bit of plastic.

Every days a school day.

Tap on a bold blue* Halte 2000 text in my previous post.

*oftentimes does hide an imbedded link to a referred subject on these pages.
To quote Wapping “tap about, you can’t break it” 😜

it's the 2nd highest paved road after the one in Spain that goes to an observatory. Oztal goes to a glacier but not to a Col.

a lot of the confusion is that a road is not necessarily a Col i.e. a road that crosses a watershed between two valleys. The Cme loop off the Col de la Bonette often claims to be the highest paved road in the Alps but it is just a loop around a hill, not a proper Col.

Learned something there.
