Ok lads never been on a bike so we would like to go.
So i am open to suggestions please . Maybe how long we should be looking at going places to go stay, How long for ect would be a great help for a Spain novice.
And yes i would go down to Plymouth i presume to Santander.

Thank you very much in advance Doc

Base yourself at Hotel Del OSO for 3/4 nights . I have 3 ride outs you can do . Then perhaps a Parador or two such as in Cangas del Narcea

Plymouth to Santander is best as Portsmouth goes via Roscoff and takes 2 nights .Or you could go via Rotterdam . Only 80 miles t’ull

Bookings now out for 2025. Don’t wait too long as ferries fill up . I’ve a code you can use to get a small discount

Does a “French” code work on “Spanish” ferries?

Doc...what time do you normally have your tea? I have to eat no later than about 6.30 (med issues)...Hotel Del Oso is wonderful....but they eat at 8pm onwards. Wife and I had 3 or 4 nights there last June, I couldn't have an evening meal there...desperately wanted to....as it is a superb hotel and location. (I'd just base myself down in Potes, lots going on)
It's a long trek from Slawit to Spain....so I'd look at having 10 days min in Spain. 3 nights in Potes, then head West towards the West coast at Vigo...then follow the coast back to Santander.

I generally go for 2 weeks. I mostly stay in a base for 3 nights with the other days transits between areas.
Outside the Picos, Asturias is really nice. There are some Paradors such as Cangas del Narcea. The coastal towns are good. I used Navia as a base. The AS12 south if lovely.
Ponferrada on the Asturias border with Castille y Leon is good.
In the Pyrenees, Jaca, Sort and Vielha are good bases. All on or near the famous N260 road.

I really like the French side of the Pyrenes. The road from St Jean de Luz on the Biscay coast to the Med is a cracker. D918/D618

Loads of threads in the Spain section for ideas.

4pm to 5pm for tea. 8 is bloody supper time.

if you are using a Friend & Family code, then yes, it does work. This is for a code from a member of the older scheme where the discounts are more generous.

Ahh….I see. Yeah, then my code should be good? Been a member for 10 years or so.

it depends on how you want to do it but my recent trip was 12 days including ferries down into Portugal for 4 nights by way of some epic roads and paradores

I have the routes on GPX i even have a code to get you some discount on the ferry crossing

And finally the duty free baccy is soooo cheap ....

I think you misunderstand. If you own the French code then you cannot apply it to a Spain booking. If you share your Friend code with me then I can get 10% off a Spain booking.

Benidorm and eat whenever you want. Only 540 miles from Santander. :101:Motomartin

You know it makes sense.:D

Doc, I’m not taking the piss but think you might struggle in Spain . They don’t start dinner (t’tea)till 2000 at earliest.

With you getting up at 04/0500 , being on bike by 0700 and back at hotel by 1300, you’ll have a long fucking wait for food, unless you have a siesta and chill….

Got loads of routes as have done whole of Asturia, Galicia and Leon past 8 years.

Lots to see in Picos but further west is stunning and places like Lugo, Vigo and Salamanca definitely worth seeing . Places such as Chaves in northern Portugal are stunning or head further into the Douro valley, Serra Del Estrela etc

Thanks lads lots to look into.

Watching this with interest. Going on September 8th. Plenty of info to be found here but cant have enough. (y)

Have the first 2 nights booked, an apartment in Potes just above the ice cream shop . After that its go west a bit and down a bit. For the next week and a half the world will be our lobster Rodney.

Good point well made. Since our novice likes to tuck into his dinner early, he might struggle to find any. Since Spanish are lazy and tend to snack allot, then have a siesta.

I know fellow talking about Southern Spain, but, Spain is Spain ‘init? :nenau

Hotel del Oso is great indeed, but it is basically a self contained affair, now if our novice Spanish traveler likes a variety of bars and other type of hangouts, then Potes would probably suit him/them better

It is indeed a long way to go for a handful of night then (assuming Doc was planning on) riding from Rotterdam since he can be on holiday within 80 miles of home. 🤪
