Doc wants to add Spain to his Doc does trip reports

It's surprising how much we are slaves to our stomachs, even after over 25 years I still never felt comfortable with the Spanish hours which was even more complicated when I worked Spanish hours, 08.00 - 13.00 and 17.00 - 21.00 ...

But out on the road there's a magic time in between 14.00 and 16.00 when at least in rural areas there's no traffic at all. Genius for riding apart from riding through villages where the smell of cooking will have your tummy rumbling ...

Although from my experience, in Asturias at least , there’s no traffic in rural areas between 0001 and 2359

So i have 6 nights left to book.
I thought 3 nights each in the hotels in blue circles ?

Thanks Doc20250101_092401.jpg

After discussions with the Captain maybe two nights in each and find another hotel for two nights on the way to the Sansebay hotel.

maybe head east to the Pyrenees. Jaca perhaps. I stayed in the Gran Hotel de Jaca and would use it again. You can do a nice loop on the N260a that goes up to Biescas, or ride up towards the French border and gawp at the fancy train station at Canfranc Estacion. If feeling flush, stay in the new hotel they have converted it to.

Then wiggle about in the foothills towards the hotel at the seaside.

Is that the station where you had to change trains due to different gauges ?

yes, only has a service from the Spanish side now as a tunnel collapsed on the French side

Get yourself over on the push bike.
That’s an idea. If only I was young, slim, fit and had months

Looks ok for a couple of nights Wessie I'll show the boss.
Which one of you lads recommended this place ? As I haven't booked this one yet.

I agree that three nights would be too long for those stopovers and that Jaca is a great base for a brief trip to the Pyrenees, 3 nights would be well spent there!
The ride form around Soria to Jaca is a problem, however, it's either motorway, via either Pamplona or Zaragossa, or numerous options on very minor roads indeed, which I don't think would be much fun of an Indiana or any other big bike two up ...

Arsey recommended the Casino hotel. I've booked it for a couple of nights in late May

I just noticed I recommended the Jaca place on page 3 of this thread suggesting it as a stop *after* San Sebastian in a clockwise circuit. Of course, you are going in the anti-clockwise direction!

Looking at Jaca Wessie it's not out of the way for us to visit.

Recommend Restaurant Biarittz on the Main Street. Open at 2000hrs. The fortress is well worth a look around, it has deer in the moat which is unusual.

+1 for the Biarritz - ate there on both of my visits to Jaca

the set menu is good quality and in 2022 was 18 euros for 3 course and a bottle of red wine (you get a bottle even if dining solo).

there's a McDonalds at the other end of the street if tea at 5pm is required.

good swimmers those deer
