Only in as much as it’s a reasonably large town (small city) and reasonably centrally placed for the sort of area you are looking at.
If staying for a few nights, I like places that have a choice of restaurants and / or the usual basic shops for anything I might need. I don’t want to go 20 miles for a sticking plaster, 50 euro from an ATM or stamps for a post card.
We also want that.
If you are going to stay in or near Fulda, I’d visit Point Alpha, a relic from the Cold War.
It is on the so called ‘Fulda Gap’ or ‘Fulda Corridor’ which (it was assumed) Soviet / Warsaw Pact forces would channel hundreds of tanks down, had they invaded the West. That it never happened, we can all be thankful for.

It’s not far away and the scenery should be good anyway.
