Just a quick un lads;; my discs on my Gs1100 are down to 4.1mm and i have new pads in; the problem is the front wheel is dragging and i'am struggling to get a firm brake; i've had the calipers rebuilt so there's no sticktion there, i am thinking of replacing the standard lines and discs and was wondering if this can be done without bleeding the ABS which looks to be a right fanny around, a bit of heads up would be appreciated; cheers.

Definitely change the brake pipes. They can break down internally but look good on the outside. Has the fluid been changed recently?

It feels like i've pumped gallons through Udders , the lever is not back to the bar our owt like that but it's never been brick wall in all the years i've had it;; i'am still on standard hoses and i've heared the stories with the lines breaking down; i've checked the lines for bulges no end of times and they all look and feel fine, but it's a big gamble i would like to put brand new standard rubber lines if i can get some mainly because of that bit of flexibility they would have over the braided stuff but i'll see how it goes; cheers for the heads up. Bleeding is not at all funny or difficult with ABS II system which R1100 bikes have.

That's the main reason i'am hoping i dont have to touch the pump pekkavee; it looks like there's 6 different bleed nipples to pump through and not in the obvious way you would think; i suppose there's a first time for everything just going to have to put my big spannerpants on and get stuck in;:D(y)

You can get braided kits ready made for the 1100.

If you have a R1100GS, it does'nt have a ABS servo pump.
You have to bleed only one nipple in the rear wheel and two nipples in the front wheel,
That is all.

It's the first generation ABS on mine; and like you say no servo; there's still the ABS box under the tank tho, unless i'am missing summat here;(y)

Make sure your front brake lever is fully releasing my front brakes where dragging when a mechanic over tightened my brake lever.

Stick it on its side stand thith the bars turned to the left and tie back the lever with a bungee or string. Leave it overnight and see if it's any better the following day. If you get the brakes bled and they still drag you may need to change the seals - or at least clean out any crud behind them.

I changed all my brake lines for goodridge externally braided ones recently. Comprehensive high quality bike-specific kits from goodridge. Bleeding the front wasn't too bad as long as you fill the lines before connecting to the master cylinder. I never had to bleed the abs but did pump through plenty of fluid from the master cylinder. The standard 'rubber' lines are braided internally and the inner lining can blister and degrade in a way that is not visible externally and can cause problems with poor brakes and sticking brakes.
