Was out rallying over the weekend , on the way home we went the long way , up to york across to harrogate then all the way home on the A59...great ride , much better than wasting fuel and rubber on the m62 , just as i was nearing home i ran out of fuel 3 miles short! the gauge was telling me i had three segments of fuel left...112miles range...what happened to the yellow flashing warning? my dealer is closed today or i'd be there now , the bike was parked on its side stand over night , by the river derwent , and it got down to minus 9 , could any of this had any baring on what happened , during the journey home the range seemed to decrease at the right rate along with the segments dissapearing!....anybody any idea's?

Never trust your gauge.

Always reset your Trip I or Trip II on the dash (small rubber switch) and see how many REAL miles you've covered.

My 2006 GSA's gauge goes from all segments to 1 segment left within the first 50 miles, and the "computer" very often tell me I still have 100 miles when in fact I have to re-fuel close to 30 litres...

Anyone's guess regarding why they can't simply have a gauge that says "... LITRES left" and make it accurate.

Very embarrassing on a bike worth so much money.

My 2008 GSA also exhibits interesting fuel gauge behaviour, sometimes even flipping between rapidly depleting and actually making imaginary petrol.

The dealers I have quizzed have generally just shrugged shoulders and say "its just an indicator, use your trip...". In my opinion, not really an acceptable response for an alleged premium motorcycle. I believe there have been some software updates (which did nothing for me), or there is an option of having the gauge recalibrated (involving draining down tank etc).

However, I would think BMW would quickly resolve such issues if they occured on their 4 wheeled vehicle offerings.

Fuel level strip. I am on my third one, dealer replaced the two that failed under warranty. I ran out of fuel for the same reason, now I just reset the trip meter with each fill up and I know I can go about 200 miles before I need to refuel.

Four wheeled guages can be as unaccurate as the GS's.

I for one have had two cars that can do two hundred miles on half a tank of fuel......but only 70/100 on the second half :augie

It seems some Gs's seem worse than others...or some people seem less tolerant of them?....mine isn't great, or very accurate, but I've never seen it as too much of a problem...and never run out of petrol cos of it..........

.......yet :augie

That is a fair point regarding the rate of fuel depletion with regard some car gauges.

However, the gauge on my GSA can stay at 3/4 to 1/2 full for elongated periods, then suddenly drop to nothingness, or slowly deplete as you "may" expect towards empty to then have over 10l left in tank, or then automagically fill itself back up without my visiting a purvyor of petrol. Maybe it depends on the lunar cycle or something... :nenau

Mine is all over the place since last week as well. 120 miles it goes from around 3/4 to about a 1/3 instantly then at 200 I get 3/4 again and at 250 I get no fuel what so ever left when in reality there was still 8 litres left when I filled up. I haven't contacted the dealer yet as I cant be arsed taking another 2 days off work to get it fixed. Up until last week it was absolutely bang on accurate.

the guage is just crap.... just use the odo to work out when to fill up.

+ :thumb2 How many times do we have to say this?

Forget it. Fuel gauge (yes I double checked, it's definately GAUGE) is only there to provide entertainment while you ride. Real people fill the tank, ride 200 miles, then fill the tank again. Add appropriate miles if you ride a GSA.

Fuel Gauge threads now competing with Oil and Tyre threads for pure entertainment.

2010 GSA Fuel gauge carries on the trend..

...picked up a 2010 GSA recently, the fuel gauge carries on the tradition of previous models it would seem. The "range" indicator dropped from 220miles to 120 miles on my 11 mile commute this morning.
The MPG indicator remains farly constant around 39mpg, but if i add up the range left (according to the trip computer) and miles i have ridden since filling up (according to the trip meter) and divide by 7.25 (GSA tank has a capacity of 7.25 gallons i think) then i get 32.4mpg.
Any idea what fuel mileage (urban) a GSA delivers?

:nenau

I'm sure it must documented somewhere on the BMW site, or in the brochures? :nenau

On a run/tour I think I average about 50+ on my 06 GSA....around town I'd assume 40+'s....but I may well be wrong, but I'm sure that's what mine does.

Fuel consumption

@ 56 mph
mpg
61

@ 75 mph
mpg
42

....from Balderstones details for the GSA :thumb2

i get a constant 45-47mpg on 12GS according to computer, not sure if put enough fuel in though, my gauge has always been good, and accurate. When its showing one blob and 40 mile range i fill it up, but i can only get 14L of go-go juice in :nenau

That with fuel quite close to the bottom of the neck filler
