Does anyone know how to replicate the locks which secure OEM panniers to the rack?

The sky bolts look like a Dzuz style fastener. You can get Dzuz here (and a few others) eBay Linky

My Previous bike was a Yamaha 900. I was unhappy with the clunky Givi Wing Rack so made my own. I used Givi mounting buttons and made my own latch plate to accept the Givi case mount latch.

For flat back cases you could put four Givi style buttons on the back of the case. Then make up four slotted box sections to fasten to the carrier frame. The case would sit by gravity on the frame and need only a small catch to stop it lifting off. Maybe one at each end.

Hi Bendy Toy

Thanks for those links - useful stuff.

Actually, I have no problem replicating the locating plate fixed to the inner face of the OEM panniers which mates with the tongues on the frames, it's the 'little catch' which is eluding me. I really don't want to alter the existing rack (re-sale value etc) but can't fathom a secure method of holding the pannier in place on the rack. Dzuz fasteners into a SS strip fixed between the two top wings on the underside of the top pannier rail may be the solution but I'm concerned about how failsafe they are.

These: Dzus Slide Latch look as though the pannier lid could act as a lock to hold them closed. Edit: schoolboy error #1: slide latch is only suitable for panels that come together as parallels, not ones that slide together :-(

Cheers

Richard

A P clip on the carrier frame could carry a lug for over centre catch to pick up on. But if that's too close to the case edge, you could fasten a steel strip between the carrier frame verticals using two P clips. Then the hook can be put further away from the case corner. One of those adjustable catches should do the job.
You might also be able to make a 3mm x 25mm steel hook to bolt to the catch that locks onto the frame in same way as standard catch.

I think Jim Von Baden in America has done a mod to fix a toolbox in place using rubber lined P clips to various points on the mounting frame but I believe he uses Jesse panniers if they have a different mount system.

Thanks Grim Reaper, but there's no problem fixing any of the tool boxes on offer - the problem is that they all, as far as I can tell, assume the use of standard, i.e. BMW, panniers. The fixings on my ARDCases are almost the same as those on the older Touratech Zega panniers and which protrude beyond the mounting slides for the OEM panniers. This means that fitting a toolbox - which butts against the inner face of the slides - prevents me from fitting my non-OEM pannier at the same time. Would attach photos except the bike is stored elsewhere while my garage is being re-built.

A solution has been found:

I've bought a set of OEM panniers from a very kind member of this forum.

Thanks to all who gave of their time in suggesting solutions.

Regards

Richard
