Does anyone know.......

Regardless of the load spread the max load is 15kg per pannier and 10kg for the top box, 45kg total. Take into account the max all up weight for the bike incl fuel and rider. If the owner and the one who commissioned this contraption has done some research then he would know that keeping the weight low down is much better for handling and to keep it simple when travelling by bike. But this is not my idea so I can't criticise his thinking. The subframe will take it no doubt, over time the excessive loading and vibration may cause stress induced fractures (refer to Long Way Round) but the real bugger is the final drive bearing that has to cope with a load like that (thinking loaded with panniers as well as the pelican case). Whilst it is not a common thing on the LC and I haven't heard of any but the load on the bearing is cause for concern when the bike is loaded to the hilt and does massive miles. Just playing the doom prophet.

I wish my missus took notice of the weight limit for the panniers and top box when we go away!!!!!:beerjug:

Yup, despite the clear labels stating the limits I've rarely known anyone stick to them!

Me too! We went away and when we arrived in France and she unpacked I was horrified to see six lots of foot wear not including her boots! :blast
More control will be applied this year, if I'm allowed :D.

Mark, that is a great piece of fabricating there :thumb

The owner is planning to use that for Camera gear - and expensive camera gear. No portable expensive camera gear will be more than 10-12 kilos. People put shed loads more in their top box. Combine that with the anti-vibe mounts and other than the 'large' looks - it is like any other top box.

PS: do you want to build a small tool box for that space between the rear rack and the peli? Make that front section a frame (versus the usual overengineered slab of alu :D) and you can have a neat pull out tool box there? max utlization of available space.

Thanks for your positive words of appreciation for all my hard work fella (it's taken me a long time to get it designed, prototypes and made) and it's really appreciated when I see positive comments.

I'm sure your thoughts are much closer to the truth on what he will be carrying and I suspect his wishes to carry soooo much may prove unrealistic.

I have considered a small tool
Box (I already make one for the pannier rail) to sit on the pillion seat plate, I've just not got round to making one yet!

Thanks for the prompt and ride safe.

Mark
