Regardless of the load spread the max load is 15kg per pannier and 10kg for the top box, 45kg total. Take into account the max all up weight for the bike incl fuel and rider. If the owner and the one who commissioned this contraption has done some research then he would know that keeping the weight low down is much better for handling and to keep it simple when travelling by bike. But this is not my idea so I can't criticise his thinking. The subframe will take it no doubt, over time the excessive loading and vibration may cause stress induced fractures (refer to Long Way Round) but the real bugger is the final drive bearing that has to cope with a load like that (thinking loaded with panniers as well as the pelican case). Whilst it is not a common thing on the LC and I haven't heard of any but the load on the bearing is cause for concern when the bike is loaded to the hilt and does massive miles. Just playing the doom prophet.
