Does Modifying affect your warranty?

With so many after market parts available for GSs I presume adding bits like crash bars etc. doesn't affect your warranty but does it?

it does if what you've modded screws up something bmw did.

So, if I want to add some Adventure Spec crash bars should I get my dealer to fit them?

if you want to pay a heap of money for the pleasure and your dealer may refuse as they may not be platform tested or compliant... to avoid any liability issues...

There was the thing years ago when a pannier fell off and the rider got hurt? I remember reading about it was up north... Manchester?

When i bought my brand new gsa in Jan this year, i asked my dealer that very question. He said as long as the part does not cause anything else in the area it has been fitted to to fail or get damaged, there should be no problem.

So i asked if i get a fender extender for the front wheel, and the cylinder head paint starts to peal, you aint going to come back and say no warranty as i have modified it are you?

He said no, that would not happen, but he said if the front mud guard cracks where i have drilled for the extender, then it aint covered!

Ok, so the answer is just be careful when moding your bike!

I rang the service dept. at my local dealer's and was informed that my warranty won't be affected.

your servicing costs will go up if they have to take all the shit off before they can service it...and the refit it...

bear it in mind....

I would concur with that - I have done all the std service items on my '08 GSA without moving the crash bars including the belt change.

don't know if they need to come off or not best I keep quiet....
