I was out today with my mate who was enjoying his very first day on his new 2014 GS-LC, when we stopped for a brew and a bacon bap at Willingham Woods he asked me how to set his LCD display to show his current speed (not average speed) as a digital readout.

I offered to set it up for him but found it was missing!

Has the digital speedo been omitted from the 2014 model, or was I looking in the wrong place? :blast

I find this feature really useful on my 2013 full fat bike and tend to ride on it, in fact I never look at the analogue device as it seems too cluttered with stuff for my ancient eyes! :rob

Has he got a TE model, because the option of the speedo in digital display is only available with computer pro .

Somebody did a thread on here a year or so back on how to do it. 'The count' or somebody I think. If I remember rightly he flounced cos he carbon wrapped his bike and we all told him it looked shite ... :D

(Or was that Nutty .... :nenau)

I wonder, how could he do a thread on it a year or so ago on the new 2014 bike, or am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure that it is the TE model, it does have a lowered chassis, do they supply the full TE kit on the low bike?

2013 / 2014 .... still the same dash and computer isn't it ... ??

The LCD on his 2014 bike (bought last week is different to my 2013 July bike, in that when you scroll through the info on my bike the next on the list after the 'av speed' is the 'current speed', on his bike it went from 'av speed' to 'tyre pressures' (I think), with no sign of a 'current speed' readout facility anywhere, and I scrolled right through everything two or three times.

Well to my knowledge, you can set that 'scroll' to read different things (like current speed). I have altered mine (and generally have current speed displayed) but I had to read through 'Counts' list of which buttons to press .... I couldn't tell you how to do it now ... :eek

Kind of ! but its an option on the 14 bikes and called it computer pro only available on the TE bikes.

If its a low bike its not a TE because the TE comes as stock with ESA, the low bike is non ESA ! Is it not !

The low bike ONLY comes with ESA, unlike the old 1200 where you couldn't order it on the low model. Copied from the BMW website options list:

Seat Height Reduction (taking seat height to 790mm) (Cannot be combined with Riders Low Seat) (Can only be ordered in combination with Dynamic ESA) £170.00

It is not! Well, at least it wasn't for 2013 bikes. I had a demo TE that was a low chassis model. Having just checked the data file for 2014 models, it's Option Code 499 Seat Height Reduction (790 mm) £170 (inc. VAT) - not to be confused with Option Code 776 Rider's Low Seat (820 mm) No cost. Note that Options 499 and 776 can't be combined.

It was the count. After the wrap, someone referred to him as Count Chavula.:D He hasn't been seen here since.:comfort:D

Ahh ... Yes, I'm guilty of the count chavula joke ..!

Ding dong this is a new low bike with ESA, I know this as I ran through his set-up helmet pictures etc.

This low chassis bike has a Low seat fitted?

I did have some of my bike wrapped in 3m venture shield stuff for protection and I did use carbon flavour on the side panels to darken the bike. I took the view it's my bike and I'll do what I like with my own money. I also take the view you are judged by people you hang out with to a certain extent and the clique here was never welcoming. Whether that's judging me badly or you guys is a good question. Anyway, it wasn't worth my time trying to find a community here that I did not find welcoming to a newbie so I stopped bothering. Oddly, I browsed by pure chance today and things haven't changed. That's fine, you have your forum and it's yours to play with as you want. Maybe making a tad more effort to grow the community wouldn't be a bad thing.

To assist the OP, I did put up detailed instructions on switching the digital speedo to show range and current speed in whatever window you wanted. I don't know how the forum works as I'm on tapatalk mobile but if you browse my user profile, I'd guess you can find the post pretty easily.
