We all know the old bike had problems - corrosion and a duff bevel box design being two of them. Question is, have BMW done a better pre production testing exercise on the new bike? Better paint protection? A design of bevel box that doesnt eat bearings?

Or have they just swapped bevel box problems for gearbox problems? Should I stay with the old design or upgrade?

Have you not been on the forum for the last 6 months?

Simples upgrade :D 9,000 miles since March 2nd and no regrets, it is a significant step up on the old bike, which is excellent, the new one is just better.

Will let you know when I upgrade to the new LCHH or LCHD or LCD:blast

Pleased we've finally settled on "LC" never liked the "other" term:augie

Spot on. Yes, the bike has a few teething problems (just like any new model:augie), but overall, the new GS is on another level.:thumb:JB

+1 I've had no problems at all 5000 miles now bloody awesome machine!

OK then - second question. Looking at one today and chatting to the dealer about a potential trade in, we got round to the spec of a new bike. He told me that almost everyone was ordering the touring model which is 15k with panniers and box and sat nav. If I order a base model bike with abs, asc but no sat nav provision ( I already have one) and no electronic suspension ( unreliable and doesnt go as low down for shortarses like me) plus cruise control, it will be much less attractive when time comes to sell on.

What do you think? What model have you bought?

The dealer had a lot of bikes in stock.

He's trying it on. I think the unloaded model will sell just as well, there may be less around but for the exact reasons you mention, suspension and gadgets the TE may be more expensive as dealers need to factor in more warranty.

And I'm a TE owner!

I have the TE, because it has everything I wanted on the bike.:beerjug: The basic bike is cheaper and will always sell on later, but at a relative value compared to a TE. There probably won't be much in it either way TBH, so get what YOU want, with the options that you will use.:rob

The dealer will flog you the bike with the biggest profit margin for him, be under no illusions that they will do you any favours:eek:
In my case I got the TE because that's what I wanted, got the luggage and twat nav in with the deal plus a px on my RT that I was happy with.
It wasn't cheap and I'm sure Vines made good money on the deal but it was at a price I was comfortable with and I'm more than happy with the bike.
To be honest if resale value is important to you then your going to loose no matter what you decide.
Pick the one you want, at a price your happy with and then ignore the feckers on here who will take issue with your choice.
End of the day it's a great bike, whatever spec you choose:thumb

Ps. Buy a grey TE fastests and best just ask Nutty:augie
Oops slipped into Tosser mode for a minute there, must go lie down:D

I have always bought base models and had no trouble trading them in.

Forget all the trinkets, Just make sure it has spoked wheels,
Anything else is not a proper GS

He's bullshiting you...buy the base model, spec it up with ABS and heated grips (which I think its safe to say most people will always want...ESA is another matter..I like it on mine, but its definitely a worry for bikes/owners as the machines go out of warranty...I had one fail on an RT just a month outside of the warranty ending...BMW did change it as a goodwill thing though...

I Agree with you I brought the Enduro version which has all the bells and whistles apart from the ESA. ive not tried the ESA version bike yet but will do when the GSA arrives.

But I have to say I have no issues with how my bike handles or soaks up the bumps
