DOES THIS COUNT?

So Henry Cole tells us. What's the plan Steve?

They look stylish retro fun these days, but IIRC they weren't exactly a pleasure to ride any distance. Still I'm probably missing the point - perhaps I should get my 40 year old racing bike down from the garage loft & show it the oily rag. It's a shame some scrote stole my ultra-lightweight fixed wheel racer years back - it was a handbuilt special job originally & would be around 70 years old by now. Plod called me once, after about a 12 month, as they thought they had found mine amongst a huge haul of bikes that had all been stolen from the local University campus. Turned out to be a false alarm sadly, just a heavy shoppers bike in a similar colour, with an SA 3-speed.

Hi Ken! Hope you are both well mate.

I have done a bit of a restoration to smarten it up, but the plan is to get it professionally sprayed next year, and collect some NOS/CORRECT parts over the next few months, but it looks OK for now. The car is still in the garage under cover, ironic really, now we have the weather and the time to get out, we are locked in!!

Last bit really.

I was going to leave it in primer till next year, then get it painted and do a full restoration on it, but being locked in (i cant work atm) i decided to buy a couple of cans of Hammerite Smooth Yellow, strip the bike down, and paint it!

1. Stripped down, i hung the frame from the shed roof and painted it. I rigged up the garage vacuum cleaner using a funnel and a pair of old tights as an extractor, it really worked well.
2. Its first coat of yellow, looking good!
3. Forks are of course the same colour.
4. The build begins! (again)..
5. Bike is assembled now completely, brakes on and working, gears all work correctly, very pleased with it!
6. It's keeping good 'Yellow' company!

Picture 6 on the next post.

Thats all for now!

All good thanks Steve - just that my personal lockdown has lasted a tad longer than most. Still, now B&Q has reopened, I am running out of excuses for avoiding Sue's list of DIY jobs.

I see you doctor has already prescribed a case of Prosecco. It's a fine medicine - the bottle should be nicely chilled & a glass or two taken early evening, maybe with a dash of Aperol.

Seeing as you just put it together to keep all the bits in one place it looks pretty damn good. Thanks for the thread, a pleasure to read.

Looks an excellent retore, you should make some ramps up to test you ability to both jump and crack your nuts all over again :D
