Hi,

Looking at a 1150 GSA which has ABS (seen the button on handlebars) and I can't see the hard brake lines on the right of the bike, so they may have been removed.

Looks like this

Should look like this:

Is this typical where the ABS has been removed?

Is it expensive to reinstate?

Thanks :thumb

Yes that's typical when the servo/abs units removed.
Yes it's expensive to reinstall.
Yes the bike is better without it

:)

Thanks for the reply.

How expensive are we talking?

It at a dealers so maybe they will fix it.

I know it's not popular but I'd ike a bike with ABS :hide

Ah you're from Essex, why don't you ask your dealer how much while the bikes there innit.
:D

Wow!.............Can you get them S/H?

Motorworks, ad. in the banner at the top of this page.

I have a complete set of sensors, pipes, rings and the module that I took off my standard 1150GS, November 2003 model. I believe it is the same kit used on the GSA but someone else will confirm that. It was fully functioning when it was all removed. I'm selling the bike probably in the next month or two. If the buyer doesn't want the ABS kit it will be for sale if you are still looking by then.

I used the zero cost removal method from the tech section on this site and nothing was damaged during removal.

Personally I didn't want the kit, or the extra weight of it or the risk of sudden failure of the servo system on my bike and would never entertain re-installing it but all folk are different.

Wow!

Is that the cost of the module?

If it's still in situ I assume it's just a case of connecting the pipes back up again?

Can you get them S/H?

Even if the module is still in-situ, it's likely (although not certain - see Packers' reply above) that it was disconnected bcause it was malfunctioning. So trying to reconnect it would be a pointless exercise. If it isn't in-situ then the cost would be prohibitive (or perhaps not if you've got money to burn).

If you really want an ABS GSA then I'd look elsewhere. However if the bike you're looking at is otherwise good, then it wouldn't stop me...

All depends on who's removed it.

Plus the new loom / part of the loom to replace the altered wiring, all the pipe work would need to be replaced - quite a bit of labour involved if BMW were to do it. Better without.

Why a new loom ? It can be removed without cutting or altering the wiring.

When i remove an abs/servo unit it's a simple procedure to replace it at a later date, simply plug it back in, no cut wiring repairs or rewiring needed ;).

Steptoe do you offer a consulting service for ABS refitting? :D

Not the way I did mine! Lol!
