Does your dealer wash your bike at service?

Yes, they washed it on some occasions. It was nice.

Other times I got it back in the same state I handed it in.
Still, I managed to survive that and got on with my day.

I'm concerned more about the mechanical work they do on the bike than them washing it or giving me a cup of coffee, etc. etc.

Mine always came back from the dealer nice and clean, all the bugs washed off. they must have used a good chemical cleaner. Funny, the bike seemed to go through quite a few front and rear wheel bearings.

am probably crazy , but I wash my bike myself before sending it in for service.

I would always wash the bike before sending for any work, and request that they did nothing to clean it in any case. Tend to believe that I would do a far better job myself, and it always useful to see how the wear and tear items are holding up.
If the dealer does it then he needs a man to do it and that man needs to be paid - and guess what? - You are picking up the tab in the long run!

Saying that I only take the bike in if on recall -owt else gets done by me

At CWs yes they do wash the bike and ACF50 after but ask normally. One time they hadn't but only because they suspected they would make it worse due to water spots. I had cleaned it a bit to much methinks! :blast

I turned up at 8am to get my bikes first service it was filthy from the 90 mile journey to the dealers in really crap weather and the local roads were covered in mud from quarries and farm traffic. I asked them if I could use their jet wash to blast off the crap and then they said they would sort it.

Cut a long story short they didn't wash it off or get round to looking at the bike until 3pm that afternoon by which time the crap on the bike was shall we say solid, I was then collared by the service manager about the state of the bike and that failing to keep it clean could result in the bikes warranty re corrosion being invalidated.

Even put in on the service sheet to which I went off it, prior to this I was more than happy with the dealer but it shall we say pissed me off ...... my bikes are normally immaculate and better turned out than ANY dealers used stock

Interesting......my bike is a little caked at the moment, note to self, must wash ahead of service next week!

Bahnstormer's used to but I asked them not to since my HID's stopped working after they'd jet washed my previous bike.

Bit awkward as I appreciate it being cleaned (I only have a lock up with no water supply) and ended up paying for new HID's myself just to get replacement ballasts.

On the LC I'll ask them to again.

Well 12k service done and dusted, they relieved me of £610 (including fitting tyres, but not the rubber itself, as I supplied!) which seemed pretty steep as bike still less than 6 months old! Still not a splash of water proffered or offered.

All that said, although expensive it does feel like new again!

Having been washing it myself I have noticed rust like colour appearing on the OEM crash protection, so they took photos to send to BMW to get them to review and action.

I've never jet washed my bikes, and been advised not to, as you can wreck wheel bearings, and electronics, but every dealer I've been to have a guy out the back blasting the heck out of the bikes.

I have a guy comes and cleans our cars, and he says that once a week he works for a big Honda bike garage, and at first he was cautious, but everyone there said that he can't cause any damage with a power washer, so he now goes crazy with the washer! He said he's never heard of any issues, so surely if he was causing damage, they would tell him not to power wash certain parts?

I have to admit that this time of year, life would be much easier if I could jet wash the bike, but I'm concerned about damaging the bike just by washing it!

Thoughts?

You worry toooo much:blast:augie

It's total bollox

Used a pressure washer, for nearly 25 years on all my bikes and not had a problem

Just be sensible and keep away from bearings/electrics and rubber boots and you'll be fine

You can adjust the pressure on the lance, you know

Pressure washer never bent the frame.....:)

That,s a LOT of £££££ for a service to a standard motorbike !!!!!!!

Read an article in technical section of a magazine recently where the owner of JHS Racing was talking about bearings and pressure washing bikes. He said you can't do any damage to them these days as all the bearings in wheels etc are sealed.
