Dogbytes' R80 ST project

Wow sounds and looks so cool ! You must be a very proud man . I bet that first ride in the dry will have you grinning like a Cheshire Cat .:D

:clap:clap:clap

I will, although it'll be a nervous grin - I keep checking to make sure all the bolts are tight. I'll develop OCD if I don't ride it soon!

That sound's mega you must be well please and fair play to have kept at it over that sort of time.

Thanks - I've nearly not kept at it several times, what with one thing or another, but yes, Im happy and looking forward to riding it - and then starting on the next one:)

Started it again today, during a break it the weather, and all was well. Will get it MOT'd early next week...

Took it for a quick run up the (private, of course) road this morning. Quick, it is! However I think I'll have to try to tame it a bit before submitting it to the tender ministrations of the MOT inspector.

I can see it being a bit of a handful when he tries to ride it onto the rollers to test the brakes. A little time spent on timing and carbs will, hopefully, sort it out. I probably need to take a slave battery with me too - because if he stalls it a few times, the starter motor will soon eat into the battery's capacity to produce sparks. I may just go and have a word with him first - so he knows what to expect!

And I need to get the tachometer working and the final drive drain plug is weeping slightly. Other than that, it appears to be good...

MOT is booked for 10.45 on Thursday...

Weeping final drive drain plug fixed.

Will try to time it with a strobe later - a pain when there isn't a willing victim to help and it's reluctant to run at anything under half throttle! If I can get the timing right, I might be able to persuade the carbs to be more cooperative. Once we've got an MOT, and hence road tax, I'll put some miles on it and concentrate on getting it running nicely.

I have spoken to Steve, purveyor of the finest Gopros, and he's almost convinced me of the wisdom of buying a Hero 4 Black with which to document the events because, as has been pointed out, if there isn't a video it didn't happen:D

Timed with a strobe now, Carbs adjusted as well as I'm able at this stage. I'm getting better at starting it too - aided and abetted by small car battery.

Fingers crossed for tommorow, always book the MOT 30 miles away just to shake it down - "yes officer thare was one closer but i always bring my bikes to this garage....."

Hope to see some go pro action of the event.

It's going in a van!

I will be taking it for a run, in due course, but it really does need properly sorting out, preferably on a dyno, before it is anything like a civilised proposition. Trying to ride it at 30mph, through little villages, in the drizzle, with no lights, having to use hand signals - you get the picture. It's for open roads or closed tracks... Anyway, I want to take its slave battery, etc. to start it when required.

Re GoPro, haven't got it yet. The cost of a Hero 4 Black is a lot of money to me, in the grand scheme of things, at present so I may end up with the Session. Either way videos will be forthcoming!

Ooohhh good, video en route soon. Of course in DB's timescales that could be a year or so:P

Easily:) In fact it'll probably be due a rebuild before the video gets done!
No, actually I've just flogged a camera lens to pay for the GoPro, so I'm off to get it right now...

Oh ye of little faith!

Just got to get the damned thing working now. Plug'n'play it ain't...

It must be well complicated :D

:D:D:D:D:D

Actually I have started shooting a little movie of it but I'm busy teaching Policemen about guns this week.
The other thing is that, whereas I know I can start it using the slave battery, it's hit and miss whether it'll start thereafter with its onboard battery. It doesn't turnover very quickly, probably due to the, in excess of, 11:1 compression ratio and the fact that the carburation and timing have yet to be set up properly. Hopefully, when it is, it'll start easier and I'll be a bit more confident about taking it further afield (and will know that I can cane it and not melt a piston).
Apparently these people have a dyno, http://www.acemotorcyclesbude.co.uk, anyone know anything about them?

Anyway it's raining - it ain't going out in the rain!
