Dogbytes' R80 ST project

Ritchie called last night and gave me a few tips on starting it. I'll give it a go tomorrow and this alleged video might actually appear! Rain permitting of course...

Good news... And bad:blast

I followed Richie's advice and the beast now starts pretty much on the button. So confident was I, that it rigged the GoPro up and went for a little ride. The bad news is whatever I did was wrong cos they're ain't no video on it for you lot to share the joy:eek:

Initial impressions are that the brakes are dire but I may have the master cylinder set on 'feel' rather than 'power' - not that there's much off either at the moment. The other possibility is that, during one of the failures of the first pair of oil-cooler lines, some of the escaping liquid gold made its way onto the caliper or disc. Maybe I'll stick a new set of pads in just to be sure. In fairness, they were good enough for the MOT but they certainly aren't up to getting rid of speed at the rate Mr Moore's finest is capable of acquiring it... It rides nicely though and the suspension feels good. I was worried the front springs (90 pound Racetech linears, IIRC) were too hard but they're fine. I think I need to move the fairing a couple of inches further forward as there's not much knee room. I was thinking of doing that for aesthetic reasons anyway but now I've got a proper reason too.

I'll try again later or tomorrow - I think I've that f*ing camera sorted now...

Okay, I give up! No one will give me a lift down the road to get more Pureshield so I can weld the oil catch tank up - so I'm going to go and buy one of those accursed four-wheeled things next week.

I did consider just putting a sidecar on the K13S (which I can't sell - apparently there are 46 on eBay. Mine is superb, so if anyone wants a bargain call me) but I'd need the TIG to do that (refer to the beginning of the first paragraph).

I fancy a Mitsubishi Outlander, circa 2005, needless to say there's not a single one to be found west of Sussex!

Anyway, Pureshield, next week, I'm on it.

Oh yeah, must sort out that GoPro too...

There must be someone down there who will help you get the gas cylinder - ANY VOLUNTEERS ??

Anything is better than having to buy a car/truck (I have two Ford cars, two Toyota 4x4s and a Transit Van with a Cherry-Picker platform - They take up too much time, money and space :blast ).

I admire your dedication to getting the bike finished - but that is a step too far :D.

Bob.

And the bike(s) too. You have your very own motoring museum! :D

There was actually a Mitsubishi Outlander for sale in Achnasheen:tumbleweed which I was tempted to go for just for the drive back (about 750 miles, I like driving!) but it wasn't quite the right one:(

I didn't mention the tractor restoration project :augie.

Bob.

There's nowt queerer than folk. :D Years ago, I sold my Moto Guzzi Le Mans to a guy who's previous restoration was a huge diesel-powered rotivator! He must have felt right at home with the Guzzi:green gri

A pal of mine who lives down South and is a 'Classic Motorcycle' nut and Membership Sec of the "Bath Classic M/C Club" is one of the team restoring " 6024 - King Edward I" - a very large Steam loco :D.

Okay you win!:D

Only until I meet someone who's restoring an aircraft carrier though!

I can only apologise:nenau the weather has not been cooperating and I've been a bit busy.

I have got a car now and even got as far as going for a bottle of Pureshield last week (except the BOC agent was closed! I'll try again on Monday). Then i can finish the oil catch tank (and lose the plastic bottle that's currently doing that duty).

There's something amiss with the K13S's starter, so I have to look at that too...

Oh and happy New Year everyone:thumby:

Two and a bit years later...

Well, it’s been stored in a neighbour’s garage, since we last spoke, and nothing else has happened until yesterday when, having sold the K13 a space was freed up at work. The ‘R80ST’ (as was, all those years ago) has moved in and I’m going to do the jobs that need doing, then it’ll (regretfully) be for sale.

Jobs list:
New, tartier, number plate bracket.
That bloody oil breather bottle!
Different brake caliper (I’ll be back with questions about that).
Move fairing an inch or two forwards.
Revise gear linkage to shorten stroke.

I guess I should subscribe again to post pics. Will it let me re-subscribe or do I have to start again? Anyone know?

I’ve often wondered what happened to this bike and builder. It’ll be good to see it finished and put to use by someone.

Re. Subscription - £12 has probably been automatically drawn anually from your Paypal without you even noticing!

Ideal. Now you mention it, it does say ‘subscriber’ under my name!

I’d like to see it go to someone who’ll take it a stage further. I have a list if it helps! Nova Racing sidecar ratio gear cluster, Ceriani front end, cast wheels, twin discs, etc etc. Too much is never enough...
