Dogbytes' R80 ST project

If you go cast wheels on this, can I have first dibs on the spoked ones for my ST?...

Twin disc conversion

It’s looking more and more like I’m going to have to put a twin disc set up on it. I’ll probably get a marching PFM full-floater for the other side. I seem to recall that the hub had a cover on the left side under which were the holes to bolt a disc to. Can it really be that easy? Nothing else is!

Whilst I’m doing it, I’m very tempted to go with cast wheels. I think they’d be more in keeping with the theme of an ’80s race bike. What are my options here? Is it possible to get a 19” cast wheel? What styles did they come in?

As the eagle-eyed will see, I never did fit a twin-disc conversion. What I did do was fit a Harrison Billet 6 instead. It’s got a PFM, full floating disc and Brembo RCS 18 20 radial master cylinder, so it should be enough. I seem to recall it weighed in at under 160kg

Long story short (although having dragged it out for 16 years, I don’t know why I’m worrying about that now!) Pete Keys has been spending a bit of time recommissioning the R980 RR for me. Yesterday, he took it to Bahnstormers’ customer track day at Thruxton.

The plan was just to park it up so people could see it (it’s for sale now) but Pete couldn’t resist taking it round the track. I didn’t like to ask him to do that as, although I did have it MOT’d at one point, it’s still a bit prototype-y but Pete’s an experienced track rider and he obviously felt confident enough in it to take it out. So now I have a pic of it at a race track and short video too. I’m having a bit of trouble uploading videos to the thread from my iPad but I’ll have another attempt today.

Cheers Pete, brilliant to see!
