I had to have my ABS unit (gen 2 ) refurbed due to an internal fault

Now I've started getting ASC / abs faults

looks like its going for some more diagnostics lol

GS 9 says Abs sensor

I'll change it as an easy fix, but dont want to be going down the tank off route again lol

Just run the codes again

front ABS sensor - electrical fault

i'll order a new one tommorow

:(

I had that Santa. A good spray of brake cleaner on the sensor and a couple of hundred miles later all ok

my TC went full stupid unrideable (till you toggle TC to off - then 100% normal to ride but of course without any traction control)
good main dealer replaced front sensor, updated bikes i-level and gave the bike back

less than 500 yards later I went back same issue - they worked on the bike with technical for hours scratching their heads - in the end their explanation as to the wrong diagnosis first round was due to the way ASC operates - its far more sensitive to the data stream from the wheel speed sensors than ABS is

ABS doesn't have a clue if intermittent weird data is each wheel under slippery condition doing different things to each other - or a faulty sensor
ASC is seeking parity from both sensors all the time - and if it sees ANY difference (passed x threshold) it cuts the power

If the info is intermittent madness from fracturing ABS sensor wires (as is the BMW way), ASC gets a headache as it can't determine which wheel is causing the wild difference its seeing - so for safety throws a fault from the list of codes it has - in that unusual circumstance it always starts with the first in the list - thus claims the front is dead - when 9 out of 10 times its always the rear that has actually failed

that failure aligns exactly with mates bike - his did this for 2 years - two dealerships and five visits and a new front sensor - in the end he found out which was wrong (rear) by reversing which sensor was connected to which input

FFS to fit the sensorr, 1 screw and one connector

Plus all the tank panels & tank have to come off

thats half a day gone then

Takes me 20 mins. And that includes a tea break and an arse scratch. You'll manage :)

If you have diagnostics, its super easy to get live data from the speed sensors. Even when riding if you have a phone mount on your bike.

Yeah right,

the original sensor was welded in and no amount of teasing would get it to move :(

and you guessed it it just snapped off level with the mount - bugger

So out with a drill to make a big hole in the body of the sensor, and popped some swan necks on the square remnant

a quick twist and its out PHEW

on closer examination, someone has been there before - the body round the fixing screw was missing lol just the bush left in place

now i'll clean the exsisting hole and start removing body panels

Hex was reporting no signal from front wheel sensor

either way i need to check the wiring for breaks plugs not properly connected etc so lets treat it to a new sensor and eliminate that at the same time

Done -

what a faf, the old sensor had a quick release just under the wheel arch , which meant you could change it without removimg the tank

Sadly now the updated part has no quick release , so tank had to come off

couple of fuck it moments , trapping the fuel pump wires under the tank lol

And the side panels are a pain to get off with heed upper bars

Still all done & it runs , i'll clear the codes, and test it on the run to work monday

If you are surprised what I can do in twenty minutes you can ask my missis what I can manage in Two..
