Hi I am looking to join the gs club the bike will be a toy rather a means of transport so do I hold out a few more months until the Dohc drop a bit in price or do I buy gs se also do the 30yr gs model have the Dohc engine ?

I would go to your local BWM dealer who will let you have a ride on both - only you can decide.

Personally I would hold out for a dohc.

Hi Mp,

The R1200 '30 Years GS' has the DOHC engine and i'm very pleased with mine(GSA30) The exhaust sounds really good compared to the earlier models aswell......I don't really need the extra power but it's a torquey motor:thumb

Having said that I always thought the white R1200GS SE was a cracking looking individual bike with its black spoked wheels!

You can get fantastic deals on twin cams now as the new model will be in production soon, check with your dealer I've e got a GS triple black and am really pleased with it, I also think the SE is a lovely looking bike.

So what sort of money could you get a new triple black for at the moment with new model on its way next year ?

£1700's worth of accessories FOC and whatever discount off the RRP you can negotiate :thumb

Twin Cam production in the GS ceases end of this month so new bikes may become increasingly harder to find around October time

I also think that the 09 SE looks stunning.

So much so that when I traded it in for a twin cam, I had the new bike built as a 'SE replica'. Fortunately for me, when I was negotiating the deal someone else wanted a Triple Black with cast wheels, so I got his black ones.

Mike

New - list price. However, buy on finance - get £1000 contribution by BMW and £1765 worth of free kit and then pay off the finance the following week - this would make a non spec'd up Triple Black just over £10k with all the kit but no ESA or ABS etc. Still a very good deal and if my Triple Black with all the toys wasn't such a good deal I would have bought a new one!

To be honest - there really is no power difference between the MY08 and MY10 bikes, just shorter gearing (final drive) on the DOHC which makes it feel a little quicker through the gears. If the price was right I'd have either and for most riders the MY08 bikes would probably make more sense and be slightly cheaper to service/run - plus insurance on the triple black was a good bit more expensive :(

For what it's worth I'd go with the GS SE as I think it's the best looking 1200 they've made. Unfortunately it's your money not mine, nice choice to have...

I paid £11495 for a pre reg 1 mile on the clock TB with varios fenda and free first service.... Bit steep for yours but someone will buy it!
