As above, it's not part of the servicing schedule and mine was very dry at 11000 miles

That's not just lack of grease on an ( I assume ) 11k miles bike ( year ? ) from new ?

That's water ingress surely .

Have you been riding through the lochs up there everyday ?

No the gaiter isn't split, I've checked both thoroughly.
Condensation is possible and 11000 miles from new.
I've cleaned it up and lubed it with Optimol and it's good to go.
Interestingly whilst the gaiters haven't leaked in not certain the ACF50 is all that good for them, I think it might make them baggy

On mine when the gaiter split after 1200 miles the joint was already starting to show signs of surface rust

You need the proper white grease from BMW to seal gaiter to swing arm everything else is just too runny

I think that looks like water pooling in the swing arm.
I've drilled a 3mm hole in the lowest point of mine and after river crossings it just drains out now.

That's very worrying, it looks like it has been submerged in water for most of its life!
Is this the bike you took to the artic circle and Russia? I'm guessing if so it was subjected to some dire conditions?
Still no excuse for what is supposed to be an adventure bike!

It is the same bike but the weather in the Arctic and Russia was no worse than here - minus 2 degrees was the coldest.

Ive had a few extra vibes recently and wondered if the shaft was looked at on servicing. Presumably to look at its condition, you need to dismantle it? Would it be the same with the other end?

Unbolt the torque arm and the final drive pivots down.

You can look at the gearbox end by pulling the gaiter back, if you give the shaft a tug it'll pop off so you can have a squint in.

That looks like the PTO for a plough you'd find muck spreading her majesty's highway!!

My FD shaft/splines failed after water ingress from off roading. Quite why there is no drain hole is beyond me. All sorted under warranty. Try claiming on yours.
