I just take the car :o

And if anyone calls you a wuss, or cager   Just show them a pic of your girly, that'll stop them :bow ;)

Yes indeed for all 07 models. My new R1200GSA (07 spec) has ABS but without servo! :bounce1 More brake feel in normal conditions! :thumb Also no spongy feel with the ignition key in off mode. :D

She does prefer the bike when the sun shines but the car comes in handy for stargazing on those cold winter nights ;)

Servo ABS? My old 1150 GSA and current 12GSA have it and other than the annoying whine from the servo I'm not convinced what all the negative hype is about. I've had to pull the bikes up hard several times - once @ over 90mph when an old codger coming the other way decided to do a no warning 3 point turn on a deserted county road - I grabbed everthing and would have grabbed more if I'd had it and only just missed him - servos work fine IMHO - but they probably don't like being drowned in fords and I wouldn't spec a world tour bike with them....I should be so lucky

I have a 1999 ABS 1150, here we ride 90% dry but anyway, I figure it is non power brake? We had a 2004 /5 1150 with us Sunday put down in sand, "no brakes" due to sand in the lever stopping 100% return, this is not a DS system? Also does that system have a secondary "overflow" we had some smoke "oil" from an overflow while it was on its side, I read it somewhere?

Micky, You've got a fair point. But the trouble with hedge-cutting signs around here is that the actual cutting can be a long way ahead and the sign was well before the corner with no sign of cutting. But still, yep, hands up, I probably shouldn't have overtaken. But I did and was very glad that the GS brakes + servo + ABS (whatever) stopped an error in judgement becoming something far worse! And I get another chance to improve my riding next time I'm out with all my limbs still attached and in good order.....

I've had 2 ABS Beemers in the last 4 years and hated the ABS on both (GS & RT). On the RT I get that 'speeding up' feeling coming into roundabouts in the wet where they've ut those yellow lines across to give you an idea of speed. without ABS I have no problems, with ABS I need to more than double my braking distance. NB this is in normal quick riding, I've not had to do an real emergency stop in those exact conditions.

I'm collecting my 12GSA in 2 days and it doesn't have ABS and I am very very glad. It reduces control for competant riders adn can give false sense of security for the less able.

ABS does have its place - for all those crap cage drivers who can't even remember to use their eyes, never mind their brains or mirrors!

Well said and I'm with you.... :thumb

I learnt my lesson a few years ago (or have I  ) particular fave road of mine in the Yorkshire Dales, plenty of twisties, little or no views through the corners, the 'tractors turning' sign has been there years... never saw a bloody tractor on that road in all those years!

Steaming round the corner one day and there it was... saw a small but enlargening gap behind it and pushed the bar. As I went through I could see the drivers eyes, they were like saucers, like mine...

For future reference, just in case. How easy/hard is it to remove the ABS unit?.
Is it a case of just disconnect/unbolt and chuck it.Then replace brake lines with standard items and refill?.Do the ABS rings/sensors need to go as well and does the ECU need to be told?.

I too would be interested in this for reference, certainlly when I've had the tank off my 1150GSA with servo it certianlly looks like all you need to do is replace the big lump of a pump with some brake lines, is it really that simple ?

cheers
