After ringing in the region of 7 different Ktm dealers with a view to changing my 16/16 1290 SA and being bid £9000- to we wont touch it because we can do a new one or £12500 and then being told but if you think thats cheap because the dealers are flooded with 1050/1190/11290 and including Superduke they will plummet even further when they have to Pre Reg them they said.

So the Moral let them Pre reg and then kick them in the nuts there are plenty,

Ktm as a Franchise have not got a clue and they dont give a Fuck about customers why bail them out of the shit I'm not Naive and buy plenty of Bikes so depreciation goes with the territory but £7000 for 2000 miles really,

KTM's are awesome bikes but I would never buy one at anywhere near list price as they are always discounting them.

Hate to think what my 1190 S is worth but not an issue as I suspect I will hang onto it for a long time

I had a Hilltopped Superduke 1290 after that nothing comes close, when I seen they where doing Superduke SEs for £12000 thats what set me off The 1290SA is a brilliant bike it just worries me that the Dealer network cannot handle the top end of the business,

There's no denying the SE at that price is a great deal and it looks like there getting snapped up because the latest 2017 new model incarnation is not getting the thumbs up on the forums.

I think the 2017 SD could well be the bike to have next year but will see on Tuesday at the NEC

Got to say if I was in your positioned I'd be feeling a little tender as well, but....
All manufacturers do this to a certain extent, and KTM has always led the way in this respect especialy with their road bikes. Unfortunately it's a fact of life that the value of your almost new, but non the less second hand bike, is going to be compared to the price a new one can be bought for.
You mention later in this thread that you are looking at changing because you are tempted by the SDR-SE at the discounted 12k price, and I bet that you wouldn't consider buying a second hand SDR with 2000 miles at anywhere near what the first owner paid for it given the current deals so it seems you want your cake and eat it?, or had you not thought about the poor SDR owners in the same position as yourself

You're right about further discounts beyond the vat deal though as I've just secured a new 1190R for just under 11K, and who knows, they may go even lower for a pre-reg later in the year.
Like I said, I'd be madder than a mad thing if it was me taking that big a hit but it's the nature of buying new and selling on quickly, just ask guys selling up early on PCP plans.

I think they're getting snapped up because the pre registered ones are £3k off the RRP

You can pick up an unregistered Superduke 1290 R with an Akrapovic can for £11499 otr but once they're gone they're gone

I think that the Euro 4 incarnation that is coming, hence the sell off of the 1290SDR SE, won't be as good so the euro 3 versions will hold their money as the more desirable of the 2

They are obviously overpriced in the first place, and KTM have massive profits they can take off the retail price, whenever they choose. Fuck existing owners, seems to be the way.

My mate bought a Superduke R SE at the beginning of the year for £15,000
You can buy a new unregistered one right now for £12,000 (maybe less if you know your dealer well)
His bike now has 2,000 miles on the clock - you're in the market for a SDR SE, how much would you offer him for it? I'm guessing maybe £2,000 less than you can get a new one for e.g. £10,000
If he took it into a dealer they would then take another £1,000 of that figure as a trade in price as they can only sell it on for £10,000 and need to make a profit (they're dealers) and all of a sudden his bike is now worth £6,000 less than his initial outlay all due to the heavy seasonal/new model discounting right now.
That would be my take on how they come up with the figures

You can now go out and buy a brand new 1290SA for £12,500
Cost to you to change £3,500 - pretty close to the £3,000 you say you normally expect to have lost in the past.

As you say, disappointing, and your right that I will be prey to the same thing as soon as I purchase. The reason I'm buying at this vat free price is that I think the original KTM prices are way too high to begin with and £11K for the 1190R is about what they should really be all along.

The difference is that with other makes I can move Brand for £3000 with Ktm 1190/1290 you have no chance and when you do try talking to another franchise Dealer the response is so negative you can feel the disappointment on the other end of the phone

I bought my Adventure in the spring on a deal as it was a 2015 model, same spec as 2016's (right down to colour) and my view is the same as Fireflyer, I valued it as an £11k bike when I bought it and knew it would still lose a good chunk of dosh the second I took delivery, but look at what 3 year old bikes are going for now implies in a few years time the loss will not look too bad.

I think KTM are now a victim of their own pricing model with many people just waiting for the discounts, I personally would not go near one at full list, then again I also got 20% of my Yamaha (as an ex-demo with 149 miles on it) - for me this is the only way to buy a new / nearly new bike.

3 Years down the line I would buy another on such a deal even if it means my px is a bit down, but I would imagine at 3 years old the cost to change would be about £4k if waiting for a big KTM sell-off, if you look at GS PCP deals you can chuck £4k down as a deposit and still have to pay 36 lots of £100+= £7600+ in 3 years, OK the end value may be a bit more than the balloon, but you're still losing about £6k, and unless my KTM is worth less than £5k after 3 years (highly unlikely) I am no worse off than most people on a PCP regardless of manufacturer.

Sell yours privately for 10-11k (bargain) and buy the bike you want heavily discounted.
