there is a double power socket available - gary62 has one fitted to his bike, and very usefull it is to .

i think it's a BMW part ? -

MAPLIN do a double adaptor # L93AW £3 or if you realy want to warm those wires up try the 4way socket #L94AW.
Check the current draw if it's big amps it may be best to come straight off the battery next time your in that area #FE42V £1 Dead cheap stuff solder up joints or go up market and get waterproof (more shillings)

BMW sell a kit for the 1100GS which they tried to tell me would work with my 1150. Not quite, no place to mount it, but I solved that by purchasing a frame clamp used to mount a fuel vapor canister. Electrically, it piggybacks onto the exsiting power socket. I mounted it so that my wife can easily plug her electric vest in.

Best mod I've seen was on a 97 GS1100 a double power socket which was mounted to the nearside of the headstock close to the fuel tank, using bolt holes already in the headstock casting.
The two female sockets,( standard Bosch tractor fitments and cheaply available from any tractor dealers), were mounted on a rectangular stainless bracket and wired to the battery direct with independently fused leads.
This location is much better than the standard position as it is well away from road dirt and reasonabley dry, it also allows for shorter power leads to be used on any plug in extras without trailling wires all over the bike.

Hi there,

I have been following this post with interest and wonder if there is any alternative to using the rather large multipe cigarette connectors described in the previous posts. Would it be possible to use a smaller connector (like the ones that connect up headlights, indicators etc) to hook up GPS units, MP3 players, mobile chargers etc to save space? Would it just be a matter if cutting the cigarette lighter connector off the mobile charger lead (for example) and reconnect a smaller one like the one mentioned above?

Any thoughts?

I was going to use BMW bike sockets to wire up some accessories in the car, but they are too big and fabulously expensive. So whilst I was in the States I bought some plugs/sockets from Radio Shack. The plugs are similar to those used to charge a Nokia mobile. I know Maplins stock them as well. I presume the BMW sockets are waterproof or whatever, these probably aren't.
