Thoroughly bored and pissed off with all this global warming and I thought I would treat myself to a new toy, or a project. To be honest I would like an r1200c but couldn't find a relevant BMW owners site, so I thought I would stroll in here and linger for a bit. I've been around the block a bit, had bikes at an early age and then did the marriage and kids trick. I now seem to find myself drawn to a cruiser but am not ready for the old Hardly yet. I am only 5'10", and not comfortable with tall bikes. Where do you guys think I should start?

How many answers do you want? what do you want a bike for. I have ridden many over the years and now have a GS and for its faults I think it is the mutts nuts. I also have aPan whic is better in the snow for keeping the rain off. My missus has a chop whic is better posing around town on and she also has a 500 twin which she uses for work cos it is more economical.
Are you a slow rider? do you like riding like a looney, is 160 mph your thing? There is a bike for everything. Go to a dealer and ask for test rides. If they won't give you a test ride go to a different shop.

Welcome Maybe... I'm the same height as you with a sub 30" inside leg and have an 1150 Adventure with a lower seat ...I don't have any problems

Welcome to the site orourkj the R1200C is a bit of an aquired taste IMHO but hang around and get re-converted

Ok, I wont get arrested will I?

I have had bikes all my life, I started at 16 with mopeds, then rd 250 and up to a gpz 1100. In my wilderness years I kept a trials bike and a green laner of some description. I quickly tired of the Jap bike scene and currently have a naked Buell which is a brilliant but steady bike that really pleases me. However I feel selfish because the Buell is ungainly with a pillion on board and yet my whole family love bikes, and want to share my experiences. I recently tried a Triumph Rocket but found it all a bit excessive. Also looked at a Ulyssees but it felt a little numb compared to my current ride. I like quirky, and I find the r1200c appealing but am a little concerned about its lack of power.

Had at least 50 bikes before I got an 1150gs in 2003... then upgraded to an 1150 Adventure a couple of years ago....

Since getting the GS's my idea of a ride has moved from a quick trip to Matlock and back on a Sunday morning , to a trip to Auschwitz ( among other eastern bloc type places) a trip to Garmisch in Bavaria, and this year a trip to Rome and associated places of interest along the way....

before the GS SWMBO would have never considered a holiday on the bike... now she looks forward to it.... the GS has made my rides a 'family thing'

This coming year we're hoping to get to Croatia

If you have ridden around Rome I take my hat odd to you. Rome is my favourite city and I visit as often as I possible can, but anybody who drives or rides around the city is barking
My wife has a BMW car, it is just 3 years old and we are going to sell it because the service we have had from Bmw re warranty work is appauling and the worst I have ever experienced. Its a bit of a shame really because we both really like the car. Has anybody experienced anything like this in the BMW biking world?
Going to go look at a GS in the meantime and take one for a test ride.

I had a R1200c independant for 12months prior to buying a new R1200GS in March of this year.I am just under 5' 9" and with a low seat what a great bike.Nothing wrong with a R1200C but handling and performance there is no comparision.Horses for courses!!
