I've just found what seems to be a particularly good deal from Argos for a TomTom ONE XL Classic UK and Republic of Ireland for £129, down from £169.99. Will I be able to download Europe into it (well, I only need the France bit really)? I know nothing about SatNavs so will I be wasting my money?

Not a spectacular deal....it's the same in Currys, Dixons, Halfords etc......

It's not a bike unit, so it's not waterproof....and you'll need to spend £ on mounts etc.

It only comes with GB and Ireland maps, so again, more £ or dodgy downloads....and Tom Tom :blast

You could get a Garmin quest, with mounts and all you need for the same money- and they're designed for Mcycles.......

Garmins are just sooooooo much better than Tom Toms unless you just want a basic, no frills a to b unit for a car and have no desire to plan things, get interested in your actual route (which, lets face it, is what riding is actually about unless you're simply commuting)

Wouldn't touch it meself but then it totally depends on what you want it for :)

The one XL

The Tomtom one XL is fine in the car, just trying to mount on the bike but I agree with the route selection point.

Ram mount £35 delivered, parts for the power cable about £12 to plug into the BMW GPS plug.

I assume you can get the Euro maps on a hooky basis by copying the SD card of someone with those maps. Don't quote me on that though.

That could copy some but not all of the data on the SD card, but the map would not work on the unit unless it had been unlocked for that units serial number.

You are better off buying a unit that already comes with the maps you require, it is legit and costs you less than buying the maps later.
