Now I know that I am about to join the ranks of plonkers but I have a basic dell computer. This is used for internet use just looking at things ukgser and e-mails, now I have tried to be brave and down load something to disc.
All I get is no disc ( or device) detected, I hjave only one disc drive on this so does it mean I have no way of copying to disc or have I missed somthing.
I am an almost a complete duffer with computers so would apriciate some advice on this.
many thanks,
dave gs.

CDs

Steve, many thanks thats what I thought as I did buy the most basic as have another but not on the internet 'cos no work would get done!. Is this an ad on device or doI just connect the other comp to the web?.
many thanks for the advice, dave gs.

Dave,

There should be a spare bay in your pc case to add another bit of kit. (or just remove the existing CD drive and replace with a new one as below)

A new DVD writable drive should only cost you £30 - if you only want to do CD's then they are £20 or so.

Loads of places to buy them - have a look here: http://www.maplin.co.uk/family.aspx?menu=1661&doy=20m3&MenuName=CD, DVD & Floppy Drives

Easy to fit too!

(external drives are more pricey - but all you do is plug them into any spare USB port.)

Just seen your reply thank you very much indeed, I'll have a look computer bits are certainly cheaper than BMW bits!
Thanks very much,
dave gs.
