DrAlf’s Spirited Whales Ride – Easter 2014.

Spenny,
Unable to pm you so apols for post on thread.
Doing a ride out on Monday 6th from denbigh that will be suitable for a Dakar (another lad will be on a sertao so you can compare notes!)
Will be a mixture of roads and easy trails. It is muddy and slippery so would need minimum of tkc 80s, and be prepared to drop it.
Save cluttering this thread, contact me on 078 0554 8three one one if interested.

Dr alf's ride at easter looks a hoot if you have a suitable bike and comfortable with the pace.:D

Gareth

Roll on, Easter 2014!:JB

Same location on a 2006 Gerry Huxtable ride:

The scenery in S Wales. Epynt, Brianne and Elan Valley are enough to keep any biker happy. It's all 'next door' for me and within a days comfortable riding, but I enjoy it every time. I may join this ride en route.

HNY All.

Just bouncing this back to the top. I'll be getting a route sorted out over the next few weeks and have an idea of somewhere to stay (you may need to find somewhere else though Rich:augie)

I'm extending the invite out to a few mates so places could be a little limited - ideally I'd like no more than 10-15 bikes. Once confirmed, I'll book the hotel and post details - so it'll be up to you to book your room.

All welcome - as mentioned above, we'll be using the "last man" drop system so whilst it'll be a spirited ride at the front, you can ride at your own pace.

No speeding in villages, no overtaking on double whites and no heavy petting or bombing allowed :augie;)

Cracking roads guaranteed.

I'm in. But as long as the hotel bar has a bell!:D

Is Mick coming as last man?

That would be excellent Tony. Very much enjoyed having you along on the COUTC ride last year. Very rough plan is to ride through the Cotswolds to Ross and then on to Abergavenny and up to the shooting ranges and reservoirs ending up in Snowdonia via Bala. You could either meet us at Abergavenny or head down the night before. Hopefully see you at Easter:thumb

I rather enjoyed the COUTC Spirited road ride and it’s got me thinking. For the last few years I’ve been leading an Easter ride out around Whales (yes I know it’s Wales) for a few biking mates. We take in the best roads that I know with a mix of fast sweeping A roads, twisty challenging B roads and “terrifying” “white” roads strewn with gravel, sheep and sheer drops if you get it wrong. Focus is on the riding – lots of miles and long days regardless of the weather. Always finished before dark though – unless it goes really wrong. We’ve done the trip in glorious sunshine and snow and ice and everything in between. It’ll almost certainly be wet at some point though – it is Whales. For those that joined the road ride on Saturday – you’ll have an idea as to the kind of roads that I enjoy riding so it’ll be more of the same. On steroids:)

The rough plan would focus on 2 or maybe 3 days of hardcore riding starting from somewhere near Banbury or maybe Hemel (coz that’s where I live/work) and working our way into Whales on interesting biking roads. No motorway or straight A roads.

As per previous ride outs we’d use the last man drop off system and as such people would be free to ride at their own pace. I think I’d have to limit numbers a little but first off I thought I’d post out to see if there’s any interest.

We’d be looking at a start date of Friday 18th April 2014 and home either Saturday or Sunday.

Accommodation would be cheap and bike friendly hotels/pubs/guest houses – I have one in mind. Evening’s entertainment to consist of beer, curry and bike banter.

All bikes welcome.

Thoughts?

Hi Adam

Got your message via FB...thx for thinking of me!!

It's not as fast as the TT, but there were quite a few complaints last time, as some thought it would be a bimble with the odd fast stretch.:rob As long as you're happy not hanging around, you'll be fine.:thumb:D If you don't normally ride that quick, then it's probably not for you.

Quick..................try the Stelvio in the torrential rain, we overtook 8-10 bikes - he's a demon possessed, we had to lock up the rear wheel to get around the hairpins going gown the Stifeljoch side (joys of no ABS:D)................he's that quick

You've never seen Andy ride:augie

He'll be fine

My memory of him in 2002 riding a R80GS with road tyres over the green lanes of the Yorkshire, after heavy rainfall, with live with me for a long time

He's a grand master and he can fly around the Swiss passes and Europe too, when we spent a week touring together in 2004

Supermoto in the Dolomites was another good week with Andy in 2005

In that case, then great.:thumb He's the one that said he doesn't ride that quick!:augie:D

Possibly a little tongue in cheek Rich. Mr Malton is a very old mate of mine and one of the finest motorcyclists I know. Taught me everything I know.

Be great to have you along Andy, you too Bounce. Gonna be a great ride:thumb

Would like to join you for this as stated previously, will confirm as and when I can.

It seems that I've been taken in by a wind up merchant!:comfort:blast:D

Careful there JB, it's a ride out not a race. Although saying that I would very much like to arrange a GS only track day:augie

Love to have you along too 2WH. We met at the balcony bar at the raost a few years ago. Be good to see you again:thumb2

I have to confess to being a lazy fecker and not sorting this out yet. Lots of interest so far. Got a hotel in mind - I'll give them a call tomorrow, check availability and post a plan pronto. Stay tuned - this will be a cracker:)
