Drama at the petrol station

Pulled into the petrol station this afternoon. Something caught my right eye. I looked down petrol was spraying everywhere from the Right hand side of the bike.

left the petrol station and rode the 200m home, fuel quick release had given up the ghost.

Luckily my bike trousers weren't soaked in petrol.

I went all out (yes I know there are cheaper alternatives ) with a pair of Jiffy-tites. Race quality and look pretty sprauncy on the bike too.

Wasn't this issue mentioned on a recent 'Oilhead' post about someone doing some updating maintenance ? The 11## range must all be about the age where they go kaput

They look like the couplings we use for our emergency breathing system on submarines. Must be good!

odd the link I added earlier is showing the fitting that goes into the fuel pump!

Having my doubts about these, looked at Sherlocks and Motorworks, couldn't see the correct part.

Just did a bit more research, seems that when disconnected, they only seal from the female side. They'll be going back.

Been meaning to move the lower one so that it doesn't rest on that bit of tape on the Telelever pivot, but then it's been there for years. These seal both ends.

Meh, filled up in a small village today; just under forty quid to get me 220 miles or so. Connectors look cheap(ish)

I now fully understand comments about if when running out of petrol, to tip the bike over on the right side.

Drained petrol, removed tank, changed hoses, painted the rusty bits on the pump / filter base. Self almalgamating ..... rubber tape, around some chaffed exposed wire.

Picked up tank and promptly dumped petrol on the decking.
